Toreros Tie UC Santa Barbara in Scoreless Draw

San Diego tallies nine shots in the second half against Gauchos

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's soccer team had multiple chances to find the back of the net late, but went empty for a 0-0 tie Thursday evening against UC Santa Barbara.

In the 88th minute, graduate transfer Molly Quarry received a corner kick in traffic but the ball bounced off the left post in the Toreros' best and final chance to try and give new head coach Greg Laporte his first win as a collegiate head coach.

That was part of the second half attack the Toreros (0-2-2) put on, edging the Gauchos (0-1-3), 9-4 in that regard.

As a result, San Diego records its second consecutive tie after its 1-1 deadlock at UC Irvine a week ago.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the 69th minute, San Diego was in the fastbreak. Baxter took a shot from beyond the half circle but was saved by the Gauchos.
  • Two minutes later, sophomore Tamia Graham had a shot that just went over the crossbar from inside the box.
  • In the 87th minute, Evans had an open space with the ball on the left side before it was blocked at point blank range.
  • In the next minute, USD had a corner kick that was centered but went off the left post.
