SAN DIEGO – Toreros Women's Soccer battled to its third consecutive match unbeaten, tying San Francisco at home in the WCC opener, 1-1 on Wednesday night off a late equalizer from sophomore
Tamia Graham.
"I'm really proud of the fight our team showed today," head coach
Greg LaPorte said. "We played hard from start to finish and even when we were down the players kept pushing. Tying it up late showed our resilience and determination. It's a great reflection of the heart this team has."
The Toreros improve to 2-4-4 on the season and start WCC play 0-0-1. Graham's 86
th minute goal is not only her first career goal but the first goal for USD at home since Oct. 18, 2023 as the first-year staff under
Greg LaPorte have turned things around at Alcala Park. It is also the first time the Toreros have scored in three straight games since Aug. 21- 28, 2022 and first time going three games unbeaten since Sept. 1-8, 2022.
How it Happened
Nothing separated the sides in the opening 45 minutes of play while both teams did force the opposing goalies to make quick reaction saves.
San Diego sophomore goalkeeper
Ilise Medrano and the Toreros in front of her's streak of 240 consecutive minutes of holding opponents scoreless came to an end after USF's Allison Kamansky 56
th minute goal. Kamansky unleashed on a USD mis-clearance, driving it past Medrano on the ground at the near post from outside the 18.

Molly Quarry picked up the match's lone caution in the 66
th minute.
The Toreros curated several chances in attempt to knot the score, but to no avail. That was until the 86
th when freshman
Ella Callanan sent the ball into the box, senior
Josefine Schlichting initially whiffed, but tapped the ball to Graham who netted the ball and evened the score.
USD persisted for a go-ahead goal in the final four minutes, forcing a save and a block out of the Dons. At the sound of the final whistle the score read even while USF outshot USD 17-12 and Medrano saved five shots on target to Dons keeper Kira Ybarra's four.

A positive result would see the Toreros go unbeaten in four straight matches in the same season for the first time since a five-game win streak from Sept. 29-Oct. 19 of 2017. USD will be in search of it's first WCC win since Oct. 15, 2021.
