Maurer Leads Women’s Cross Country at Mark Covert Invite

Fullerton, CA — San Diego cross country turned in a successful season opener at the Mark Covert Invite at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday morning.

Grace Maurer led the charge for USD, coming in 14th place with a time of 18:14.10. Aryam Jaimes and Rebecca Bronstein worked together as the second and third scorers throughout the race. The Torero's scoring was rounded out with strong performances by Jillian Lange and Maggie Duba as they ran fourth and fifth for the team. The rest of the team used pack strategies, running together to push each other through the race. You can find full results from the meet below.

"We needed to break the seal of racing and understand where we are at to know where we are going and who we want to be at the end of the season," said head coach Will Guarino. "With many new team members, it was crucial to test one another to gauge our progress in training. We were thrilled to see outstanding individual performances from our top runners."

On the men's side, the day was highlighted by a strong race by senior Jake Coleman, who placed 39th with a time of 25:26.40, passing multiple people in the second half. Sophomore Anthony Lenzini raced a solid second, while sophomore Jack Devries and freshman Michael Ivory carried the 3rd and 4th positions for the Toreros. Connor Cougevan, also a Freshman, contributed to the 5th position in scoring for USD. You can find the full results below.
