MALIBU – Wrapping up this week's road trip, the San Diego women's basketball team (4-9, 0-4 WCC) dropped their game on Thursday night to Pepperdine (6-7, 1-3 WCC) by a final score at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Los Angeles native Dresha Moore had a big night as she scored a career-high 12 points and corralled nine rebounds against the Waves on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Pepperdine scored the first four points of the game, Moore started to assert himself by grabbing an offensive rebound and putting it back for San Diego's first points of the evening.
- Working their way through the early portion of the game, the Toreros started attacking the basket as Ava Ranson drew a shooting foul and knocked down a pair of free throws to make it 9-8 Pepperdine.
- After the Waves had built a little separation, Truitt Reilly came through in the clutch with a buzzer beating layup as San Diego trailed 16-11 after the first 10 minutes of play.
- Starting fast in the second quarter, Lauren McCall worked hard to get open and nailed a three-point shot off a Kylie Horstmeyer assist to bring USD's deficit down to two points.
- McCall would then deliver another key three-point hit later in the quarter to bring Pepperdine's lead down to 11 with under a minute to go until halftime.
- Ranson would draw another foul on the Toreros' final possession of the half and connected on both free throws as the Waves led 33-22 at the break.
- Working to respond early in the second half, Moore was once again ready to establish herself as she made a layup off a great pass from Hanson.
- Later in the quarter, Ranson would connect on her first field goal of the game as she knocked down a midrange jump shot to bring the Toreros back within 16 at 44-28.
- After the Waves turned it over on their final possession of the quarter, McCall knocked down a long two as the shot clock was expiring to get the Toreros within 15 at 52-37 heading into the fourth quarter.
- Getting things going in the final period, Horstmeyer drove and created some space to knock down a midrange jumper that brought USD's deficit down to 52-39.
- Hallie Rhodes then followed with an impressive steal and then took the ball the other way to make it an 11 point game ahead of a timeout.
- San Diego was unable to draw much closer the rest of the way as they fell to Pepperdine by a 63-48 final score from Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.
TORERO TIDBITS

- Having another strong night scoring the basketball, McCall totaled 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and she knocked down a pair of threes and dished out a trio of assists.
- Reaching double figures in scoring once again, Ranson collected 11 points against the Waves and came away with three steals while going 5-for-6 at the free throw line.
