SAN DIEGO — Winners of eight straight conference matches and the recipient of a league-leading 11 weekly West Coast Conference weekly awards in 2025, San Diego volleyball (15-4, 8-0 WCC) is set to return home this weekend to host Washington State (15-4, 8-0 WCC) at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
The first-place Toreros will take on the Cougars at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in what will mark the second matchup between the two teams in the last 10 days. Saturday's game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Braden Surprenant on the call, with live statistics available on StatBroadcast and USDToreros.com.
LAST TIME OUT: SAN DIEGO SUSTAINS WCC DOMINANCE WITH WINS AT WSU AND SU
• The Toreros tightened their grasp on first place in the WCC standings even further last week, sweeping Washington State (25-20, 25-19, 25-18), at Bohler Gym on Thursday night before prevailing over Seattle U by a 3-1 (25-17, 25-10, 21-25, 25-20) margin at the Redhawk Center on Saturday afternoon.
• USD (8-0) remains the only team that is still undefeated in WCC play. Oregon State is in second place with a 6-1 conference record, and Washington State is just behind with a 6-2 mark in league games.
KALI ENGEMAN NAMED WCC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
•
Kali Engeman has been named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week for October 20, 2025, the West Coast Conference announced on Monday morning, giving USD a conference award for a sixth straight week.
• Engeman headlined a strong San Diego defensive effort over the weekend, totaling 13 blocks (three solo) and two digs as the Toreros went on the road and defeated Washington State and Seattle U. She had six digs (two solo) on Thursday night as the Toreros swept the Cougars, then added six more (one solo) and two digs on Saturday afternoon in a 3-1 win against the Redhawks.
• Her efforts helped the Toreros hold WSU and SU to a combined .120 hitting percentage across both matches.
• This is Engeman's first career WCC weekly award, and she joins
BayLea Sparks (September 1) and
Maya Kitna (September 15) as the third Torero to receive the conference's Defensive Player of the Week nod in 2025.
• Monday's recognition marks the Toreros' conference-leading 11th weekly WCC accolade of 2025, a haul that has been earned by seven different players. USD has captured a weekly conference honor in seven of the season's eight weeks so far, including an award in each of the last six announcements dating back to September 15.
BIG NUMBERS FROM BEACH
• Junior outside hitter
Nemo Beach leads the WCC and ranks 15th nationally with 327 total kills in 2025.
• She dominated for San Diego last week, racking up 40 kills (5.71 K/S), six service aces, and an assist while hitting .362 to lead USD to a pair of victories at Washington State and Seattle U as it extended its win streak to eight.
• Beach had 19 kills (6.33 K/S) and a service ace while hitting .341 on Thursday night as the Toreros swept the Cougars, then hammered out 21 kills (5.25 K/S), five service aces, and an assist while hitting a robust .385 on Saturday afternoon in a 3-1 victory over the Redhawks.
MUNDAY SETS THE STANDARD
• Sophomore setter
Kylie Munday leads the WCC and ranks 16th nationally with 728 total assists in 2025. Her average of 9.97 assists per set is the 36th-highest mark in the country.
• She led San Diego to a pair of road wins last week, totaling 79 assists (11.29 A/S), 15 digs, eight blocks, three kills, and a service ace as USD prevailed at Washington State and Seattle U.
Her setting precision helped San Diego hit a strong .296 across both matches, combining for 99 kills as a team while committing just 32 attack errors.
• Munday started her week with 38 assists (12.67 A/S), five digs, two block assists, and a service ace in Thursday night's sweep of the Cougars, then notched a double-double in Saturday afternoon's 3-1 win over the Redhawks, recording 41 assists (10.25 A/S), 10 digs, six block assists, and three kills.
LEADING THE WAY
• San Diego players are among the West Coast Conference's leaders in multiple statistical categories entering Saturday afternoon's action.

Nemo Beach leads the league with 327 total kills and 4.14 kills per set, and is followed by teammate
Isabel Clark, who ranks second in the WCC with 268 kills of her own.

Olivia Bennett has recorded a conference-high 292 digs so far this season, and is third among all WCC players with an average of 3.70 digs per set.

Kylie Munday leads the WCC with 728 assists and ranks second in the league with an average of 9.97 assists per set, trailing conference leader Macy Hinshaw by just 0.04 A/S.
DOMINANT DEFENSE
• As a team, USD leads the WCC in opponent hitting percentage (.187), digs (1,052), and total blocks (193.5).
• The Toreros' 193.5 team total blocks also rank 21st nationally.
EXPLOSIVE OFFENSE
• San Diego leads the WCC with 996 total kills, 1,288.5 total points, and 938 assists so far in 2025.
• USD's .257 team hitting percentage this season is the second-highest mark in the league (Oregon State, .260).
MOVIN' ON UP
• The Toreros were ranked at No. 38 in October 21st's NCAA RPI metric, up from the placement at No. 40 they received on October 13 and the No. 55 spot they started out at in the 2025 season's first rankings (which were released on October 8).
DURGAN PLAYS KEY ROLE IN UNBEATEN WEEKEND
• First-year middle blocker
Ava Durgan helped San Diego go undefeated last week, tallying 14 kills (2.00 K/S) while hitting .308 alongside three digs and three block assists across wins at Washington State and Seattle U.
• She had six kills while hitting .273, three block assists, and three digs on Thursday night as the Toreros swept the Cougars, then added eight more while hitting .333 on Saturday afternoon in a 3-1 victory over the Redhawks.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST WASHINGTON STATE
• The all-time series between USD and WSU is now tied 4-4, but the Toreros have never lost (2-0) to the Cougars in San Diego.
• San Diego swept Washington State (25-20, 25-19, 25-18) at Bohler Gym last Thursday night (October 16) to earn its first-ever win in Pullman.
• San Diego split its matchups with Washington State last season in its first two clashes with the Cougars as a conference foe, falling 3-1 on September 28, 2024 at Bohler Gym before enacting revenge with a 3-1 win on October 19, 2024 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
• In December 2022, the Toreros hosted the Cougars for a second-round NCAA Tournament matchup. Then-No.3-ranked San Diego defeated then-No. 24-ranked Washington State by a 3-1 margin before a crowd of 2,228 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. After beating WSU, USD went on to appear in the 2022 NCAA National Semifinal.
GOING THE DISTANCE
• San Diego has played five sets on eight different occasions this season, and is 6-2 in such matches.
• Approximately 29 percent (8 of 19) of USD's matches so far in 2025 (entering Saturday) have gone five sets.
