SAN DIEGO — After sweeping its way through a two-match Northern California road swing and claiming a WCC Weekly honor for a fourth straight week, first-place San Diego volleyball (11-4, 4-0 WCC) will return home this weekend to continue West Coast Conference play, hosting Portland (8-6, 3-0 WCC) and Oregon State (10-4, 4-0 WCC) at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
The Toreros will begin their 2025 Homecoming/Alumni Weekend festivities with a Thursday night (7:00 p.m.) matchup against the Pilots before welcoming the Beavers to the JCP for a Saturday afternoon (12:00 p.m.) tilt.
Both matchups will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Braden Surprenant on the call, and live statistics will be available on both USDToreros.com and StatBroadcast.
LAST TIME OUT: TOREROS EARN ROAD SWEEPS OF GAELS AND TIGERS
• San Diego prevailed in straight sets at both Saint Mary's and Pacific last week, beating the Gaels 31-29, 25-21, 25-20 in Moraga on Thursday night ahead of a 25-12, 25-19, 25-18 win over the Tigers in Stockton on Saturday afternoon.
DURGAN EARNS SECOND STRAIGHT WCC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HONOR
• Ava Durgan has been named the WCC Freshman of the Week for October 6, 2025, the West Coast Conference announced on Monday afternoon, marking a second consecutive Freshman of the Week honor for the first-year middle blocker after she also earned the nod on September 29.
• Durgan totaled 14 kills while hitting .500 last week along with three digs and four blocks, helping San Diego sweep both Saint Mary's and Pacific on the road.
• Across both matches she averaged 2.33 kills per set.
• She garnered eight kills while hitting .357 last Thursday night in Moraga as she added a dig and a block.
• Durgan later hit .750 last Saturday at Pacific, totaling six kills, a pair of digs, and three blocks.
• In total, six San Diego players have taken home eight WCC weekly awards so far in 2025.
• Those honors include three WCC Offensive Player of the Week awards (
Nemo Beach x2 and
Isabel Clark), two WCC Defensive Player of the Week awards (
BayLea Sparks and
Maya Kitna), two WCC Freshman of the Week awards (Durgan x2) and one WCC Setter of the Week award (

LEADING THE WAY
• San Diego players are among the West Coast Conference's leaders in multiple statistical categories entering Thursday night's action.
• Nemo Beach leads the league with .251 total kills, and is followed by teammate
Isabel Clark, who ranks second in the WCC with 219 kills of her own. Beach's 3.86 kills per set is the third-best average in the conference.
• Olivia Bennett has recorded a conference-high 240 digs so far this season, and is third among all WCC players with an average of 3.69 digs per set.
• Kylie Munday is second in the WCC with an average of 9.61 assists per set, trailing conference leader Macy Hinshaw by just 0.26 assists per set.

• As a team, USD leads the WCC in assists (747), digs (862), total blocks (149.5).
SWINGING AWAY
• San Diego is pacing the WCC with 2.034 total team attacks in 2025. The Toreros' 792 team kills entering Thursday night's action rank second in the league, just six behind Santa Clara (798).
SPARKS STAYS STRONG

BayLea Sparks played a key role in San Diego's undefeated WCC weekend, totaling nine blocks (two solo) as the Toreros swept both Saint Mary's and Pacific on the road. Sparks averaged 1.50 blocks per set across Thursday and Saturday's matches. She led all players with six blocks (two solo) at Saint Mary's, then totaled three block assists and a dig at Pacific.
NEMO'S BIG WEEKEND
• Junior outside hitter
Nemo Beach continued her dominant run last weekend, helping San Diego earn road sweeps of both Saint Mary's and Pacific by racking up 27 kills (4.50 K/S) while hitting .266 and adding four service aces and an assist. Beach had 14 kills (4.67 K/S) and a trio of service aces on Thursday night in Moraga, then totaled 13 more kills (4.33 K/S) while hitting .357 on Saturday in Stockton, also recording an assist and a service ace.
STILL SETTING THE TONE
• Sophomore setter
Kylie Munday directed the San Diego offense with precision last weekend, totaling 71 assists (11.83 A/S) to go with 13 digs, two service aces, two blocks, and two kills as the Toreros swept both Saint Mary's and Pacific.
• She had 37 assists (12.33 A/S), six digs, a block, a service ace, and a kill on Thursday night in Moraga, then added 34 more assists (11.33), seven digs, a block, a service ace, and a kill on Saturday in Stockton.
NCAA REVEALS FIRST RPI
• San Diego checked in at No. 55 in the NCAA's first RPI of 2025, which was announced on Monday, October 6.
• The Toreros were ranked No. 56 in the final RPI of 2024.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST PORTLAND AND OREGON STATE
Portland:
• San Diego leads the all-time series, 67-9.
• The Toreros have won 16 consecutive matches against the Pilots dating back to October 14, 2017, a streak that includes 13 San Diego sweeps.
• Portland last visited the Jenny Craig Pavilion on October 17, 2024, when San Diego won by a 3-1 margin.
• USD is 35-3 against UP at the JCP all-time.
• The Toreros last lost to the Pilots on November 10, 2016, when they dropped a tough 3-2 decision at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Oregon State:
• San Diego leads the all-time series, 4-2.
• The two programs met just four times before Oregon State joined the WCC as an affiliate member for a two-year term ahead of the 2024 season.
