SAN DIEGO – Returning to their home gym after consecutive road games, the San Diego women's basketball team (1-2, 0-0 WCC) are back in action on Thursday, November 13 at 6:00 p.m. when the Toreros will take on Arizona State (2-0, 0-0 Big 12).
San Diego is excited to be back in their home gym after a tremendous debut from head coach Blanche Alverson's team as they defeated Bethesda by a 92-23 final score on November 3.
It was an all-around team effort to begin the new season for USD, as 13 athletes were able to compete for the Toreros with the bench accounting for 72 of San Diego's points.
LAST TIME OUT
- San Diego is looking to bounce back from a pair of road losses as the Toreros came up short against UC Irvine and CSUN to wrap up the season's first week.
OPPONENT HISTORY
- Thursday night's game in the JCP will be the 12th all-time matchup between the Toreros and Sun Devils, as ASU leads the all-time series with a 9-2 record and have won the previous two meetings.
- The two sides last faced off during the 2021 season when ASU came to the Jenny Craig Pavilion and earned a 79-60 victory over the Toreros as USD alum Steph Gorman had a nice performance against Arizona State by scoring 14 points, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out four assists.
- USD last defeated the Sun Devils back in the 2013-14 season, when the Toreros picked up a 61-53 home victory as Felicia Wjenberg scored a game-high 15 points for San Diego.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- Kylie Ray is off to a strong start to her first season for the Toreros as she's leading the way for USD by scoring 15.3 PPG, collecting six rebounds and 3.3 assists through the season's first trio of games.
- USD has made tremendous strides on the defensive end of the court this season as they currently rank third in the WCC with 10 steals per game in the early portion of the season.
- Cleaning up the glass at a high rate through the first three games, the Toreros currently lead the WCC in offensive rebounds with an average of 18 boards per game.
