PORTLAND/CORVALLIS – With just two weeks remaining in the NCAA women's basketball regular season, the San Diego women's basketball team (6-19, 2-14) are hitting the road for another trip up to the Pacific Northwest.
The Toreros will begin their week on Thursday evening at the Chiles Center as they will take on the Portland Pilots (24-3, 13-3 WCC) at 6:00 p.m. on February 20.
USD will then head about 90 minutes southwest for a Saturday afternoon tilt with the Oregon State Beavers (13-14, 9-7 WCC) on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 2:00 p.m. from Gill Coliseum.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Toreros are feeling good entering this week's action after finishing off the conference sweep with a 63-57 home victory over Santa Clara on Saturday, Feb. 15 for the team's first home conference victory.
- Kylie Horstmeyer once again led her team in scoring as she poured in 20 points and grabbed a season-best eight rebounds in USD's first conference victory of the season.
- Truitt Reilly also had an outstanding game for the Toreros as she put together an 18 point and 18 rebound double-double in the victory over Santa Clara. The 18 boards were a new career-high for the Oregon native.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. PORTLAND
- Thursday night's game in Portland will be the 85th all-time meeting between the two programs as USD holds the overall 47-37 season series lead despite dropping three straight to the Pilots.
- In the first between the teams this season, Portland picked up a 66-64 victory at Jenny Craig Pavilion back in early February.
- Kylie Horstmeyer excelled in the first meeting between the two teams in San Diego as she scored 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field, collected four rebounds and threw in a pair of assists and steals as well.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. OREGON STATE
- Saturday afternoon's game in Corvallis will be just the seventh all-time matchup between the squads as Oregon State leads the series 4-2.
- In their first meeting this season, the Beavers picked up a 58-50 victory in Jenny Craig Pavilion in the team's first meeting since December 1996.
- USD will be making their first trip to Corvallis since the 1993-94 season as the Toreros earned a 79-69 road victory.
SCOUTING THE PILOTS
- Porltand enters this week with a 24-3 overall record and a 13-3 mark in conference action as they are in second in the WCC standings just one game back of first place Gonzaga.
- The Pilots are currently riding an eight game winning streak that dates back to a 25 point road victory over in-state rival Oregon State back in mid-January.
- USD will look to try and slow down senior guard Maise Burnham who's leading her team by averaging 16.9 PPG on 49.7% shooting from the field this season.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
- Oregon State enters this week of action with a 13-14 record to go along with a 9- 7 mark in the WCC as they sit in the middle of the conference standings.
- The Toreros will be looking to slow down OSU's senior forward Kelsey Rees who's averaging a team-best 12.9 PPG on 42% shooting from the field as well as 7.7 rebounds per game.
- USD's offense will have a nice challenge scoring against the Beavers' defensive length as they have allowed the second fewest points per game in the league at 63.
