Toreros Ready to Wrap Regular Season Against Lions and Dons

SAN DIEGO/SAN FRANCISCO – As the 2024-25 women's basketball regular season heads towards its conclusion, the San Diego women's basketball team (6-21, 2-16 WCC) is back in action twice this week. 

The Toreros will begin their week on Thursday evening at they will host the LMU Lions (11-15, 5-13) WCC on February 27 at 6:00 p.m. at Jenny Craig Pavilion. 

USF will then catch a flight north for their final regular season game when they take on the San Francisco Dons (13-14, 10-8 WCC) on Saturday March 1 at 2:00 p.m. from War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.

Thursday night's game will be the program's Senior Night as the Toreros look forward to honoring their five student-athlete senior class: Ava Ranson, Truitt Reilly, Claire Gallagher, Courtney Wristen and Kylie Horstmeyer.

Please arrive early to the JCP for the pre-game senior ceremony. 

LAST TIME OUT

  • USD's looking to finish the regular season strong after dropping their road matchup against Oregon State by a 64-51 final score on Saturday. 
  • Truit Reilly had a nice homecoming performance against the Beavers as she totaled 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds at Gill Coliseum in front of numerous friends and family. 
  • Kylie Horstmeyer scored in double figures for the fourth straight game as well as she poured in 12 points for her team in Corvallis. 

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. LMU

  • Thursday evening's game in San Diego will be 88th meeting between the two sides as San Diego leads the all-time series 54-33.
  • In their first meeting this season, the Lions picked up the 55-52 victory on their home floor back on January 20, 2025. 
  • The Toreros split both games against LMU last season as they earned a 66-50 victory at Jenny Craig Pavilion on February 17, 2024 as Kylie Horstmeyer scored 14 points in the home win last season. 

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. SAN FRANCISCO

  • Saturday afternoon's game in the Bay Area will be the 82nd meeting between the long time conference rivals as the Toreros hold an overall 44-37 advantage. 
  • In their first meeting this season, San Francisco picked up a 63-56 victory in Jenny Craig Pavilion back on January 25, 2025. 
  • USD will be looking to break their two game losing skid against the Dons as the two teams split both matchups last season, with the home team emerging victorious in both games. 

SCOUTING THE LIONS

  • LMU enters this week with an 11-15 overall record to go along with a 5-13 mark in West Coast Conference play. 
  • The Toreros will have their hands full looking to slow down graduate student guard Naudia Evans who's averaging a team best 15.6 PPG this season. In the first meeting between the two teams she met her season averaging by scoring 15 points against USD. 
  • USD will look to take advantage of LMU inside as the Lions currently are dead last in the WCC in team rebounds per game at 31.8 entering play on  Thursday. 

SCOUTING THE DONS

  • San Francisco enters this week with a 13-14 overall record to go along with a 10-8 mark in WCC play. 
  • USD will be looking to contain USF's senior guard Freja Werth on Saturday afternoon as she's leading her team by averaging 16 PPG heading into the final week of conference play. 
  • The Dons have boasted an efficient offense and defense throughout the 2024-25 season as they currently rank within the top four in points per game and opponent's points per game among the 11 WCC programs.
