SAN DIEGO – Competing for the final time in Jenny Craig Pavilion this season, the San Diego women's basketball team (6-22, 2-17) fought until the very end but could not hold on, falling to LMU (12-15, 6-13 WCC) by a close 63-60 margin on senior night.
Senior Kylie Horstmeyer scored her 1,000th career point with two free throws in the fourth quarter as she totaled 14 points in her final game in the JCP.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- LMU scored the first point of the game as they split free throws on their opening possession, USD responded on their next possession with a layup from Truitt Reilly for their first points of the evening on senior night.
- Midway through the quarter with the Lions ahead by a few, Hallie Rhodes used a screen and made a great drive to the hoop and scored a left-handed layup to make it 11-8 LMU.
- Ending a competitive first 10 minutes, Ava Ranson broke free and scored a breakaway layup to tie the game before LMU scored late to take an 18-16 lead into the second quarter.
- Reilly got the second quarter started with a clutch lay-up to bring the Toreros within two.
- Reilly struck again with a turnaround jumper later in the quarter to make it 28-24.
- LMU proceeded to go on a late run in the second quarter to take a 34-27 lead to end the half.
- Malia Tharpe nailed a nice turnaround jumper to begin the third quarter for USD's first points of the second half to get the deficit back to single digits.
- The Toreros proceeded to go on an 8-0 run to cut the lead down to two at 37-35.
- LMU then retook the lead to end the quarter making the score 51-40 with 10 minutes remaining.
- With 6:55 left to go in the fourth quarter the Lions still held a 14 point lead at 58-44.
- The Toreros went on an impressive 16-4 run in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter to cut the LMU lead down to two at 62-60.
- With 26.6 left on the clock only down two with the ball, USD had a chance to tie it or take the lead but fell just short, as LMU got the ball back on a steal and made a free throw to end the game at 63-60.

- Seniors Reilly and Horstmeyer led the way for San Diego, combining to score 30 of USD's 60 total points.
- Claire Gallagher earned her first USD start in her last game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
