Tadlock Tosses Complete Game in Loss to Bobcats

SAN MARCOS, Tex. – Beginning their 2025 season on the road, the San Diego softball team (0-1, 0-0 WCC) dropped a fast-paced pitcher's duel on Friday evening as they fell to Texas State (1-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) 2-1 at Bobcat Softball Stadium.

Kelsey Tadlock was nails in the circle as she got the Opening Day assignment throwing a six inning complete game and allowing just one earned run against a tough opponent on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both starting pitchers put up zeroes in the first as Tadlock stranded Texas State's leadoff hitter at third.
  • USD's offense began to pick up in the second as EJ Joyner delivered an opposite field single, and Alyssa Hernandez hit a rocket to right center but both were left on base to keep the game scoreless.
  • Tadlock would continue her stellar performance throughout the middle innings as she stranded runners in the third and fourth innings capped off by a nice play by Michelle Delgado on a well hit ball to third.
  • The Torero offense was able to break through in the fifth as Arisa Tovar singled back up the middle to lead off the inning. Shawnese Hogue-Lacy came on to pinch run for her and came around to score on a clutch two-out RBI base hit from Kaitlyn Wynia to make it 2-1 Bobcats.
  • Continuing to get stronger as the game went along, Tadlock retired Texas State in order in the bottom of the sixth giving her team one last shot trailing by a run.
  • With one out in the top of the seventh, Hernandez recorded her second hit of the game to put the tying run on base. The Toreros were unable to plate the pinch runner Dalia Powell as the Bobcats picked up the 2-1 home victory in USD's season opener.

TORERO TIDBITS

  • Tadlock was sensational in her season debut tossing six innings and allowing just one earned run, five hits, three walks and struck out one hitter as she went the distance for the fifth time in her collegiate career.
  • Hernandez put together a strong season opening performance as she went 2-for-3 at the plate and recorded a couple of put outs at second base.
  • Delivering San Diego's biggest hit of the day, Wynia went 1-for-3 with an RBI as she hit ninth and played right field against the Bobcats.
  • Coming off the bench and providing a great spark, Hogue-Lacy scored USD's lone run on Friday and caught the final two innings behind the plate for the Toreros.
  • Making her collegiate debut, Sophia Pinedo hit eighth and manned shortstop as she went 0-for-2 at the plate.
