LOS ANGELES – Returning to Southern California for a midweek contest, the San Diego softball team (11-16, 0-0 WCC) fell to the #6 UCLA Bruins (24-4, 0-0 Big Ten) by a 9-0 final score on Tuesday night at Easton Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Getting the action going on a cold night, the Toreros received a one out single from Carly Ruiz and Michelle Delgado worked a walk before the Bruins escaped the inning without allowing a run.
- UCLA put together a big inning to start their evening as they plated eight runs in the opening frame.
- Kaitlyn Bartlow got the final out of the first and returned for the bottom of the second as she set the Bruins down in order and recorded a strikeout to keep the score at 8-0.
- The Toreros would get a pair of base runners on in the top of the third as Ruiz worked a walk and Delgado was hit by a pitch but were unable to score them.
- Adding to their lead, the Bruins scored an additional run in the bottom of the third to make it a 9-0 game.
- Returning to the circle in the fourth, Bartlow recorded another strikeout and generated a pair of pop outs to retire the Bruins in order.
- San Diego wasn't able to score in their half of the fifth as UCLA was able to pick up a 9-0 victory on their home diamond Tuesday evening.
