Toreros Fall to Pacific on Friday Afternoon

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Playing in their second game in as many days, the San Diego women's basketball team (7-24, 3-19 WCC) dropped their game in the second round of the 2025 WCC Tournament to the Pacific Tigers (14-17, 10-11 WCC) by a 64-52 final score on Friday afternoon at Orleans Arena. 

Hallie Rhodes scored a season-high 18 points against the Tigers on Friday, while Truitt Reilly put together a 14 point performance in the final game of the 2024-25 season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Getting the action going in Las Vegas on Friday, USD scored their first points of the game on a layup from Ava Ranson to even the game at two.
  • Following a 6-0 spurt from the Tigers, Kylie Horstmeyer scored her first points of the day to make it an 8-4 game late in the first quarter. 
  • Pacific would score once more in the quarter as they led 11-4 through the first 10 minutes of play.
  • Starting the second quarter, Reilly started to get going as she scored her team's first six points of the quarter to make it a four point game.
  • Late in the quarter, Claire Gallagher would deliver a clutch three-point shot to make it a 21-19 game with 1:53 left in the first half. 
  • Scoring the final points of the first half, Reilly knocked down a paint jumper with two seconds left on the clock as the Tigers led 23-21 heading into the locker room. 
  • H. Rhodes started to excel offensively in the second half as she scored her team's first points of the third quarter with a layup to make it a 30-23 game. 
  • Malia Tharpe and H. Rhodes would continue to pace the way for the Toreros in the third as they both scored consecutive baskets that brought USD's deficit back down to four points at 35-31.
  • Pacific would then mount another late quarter run as they entered the final quarter leading by a 43-35 score. 
  • After the Tigers built a double digit lead to start the quarter, Reilly made a turnaround jumper in the paint to make the score 46-37 as USD looked to keep within striking distance. 
  • Tharpe would then draw a foul later in the period and knocked down two free throws to make it a five point game with just 6:47 remaining in the contest. 
  • Pacific would take control of the game late as they earned the 64-52 victory to advance to the next round of the conference tournament. 

TORERO TIDBITS

  • H. Rhodes had one of her best scoring games of the season as she totaled 18 points, three rebounds and an assist against the Tigers on Friday afternoon.
  • Reilly capped off her San Diego career with a strong performance as she scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds as she put together a pair of great games in USD's two WCC Tournament games.
