Cheer Team Closes Out 2024-25 Season

USD Cheer caps off the year with Senior Night celebrations and a journey to the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas

SAN DIEGO, CA — The USD Cheer Team has wrapped up another exciting season, bringing energy, school spirit, and unwavering support to Torero Athletics. This year, the team played a key role in elevating the game-day atmosphere and engaging with the USD community both on and off the sidelines. Their season concluded at the West Coast Conference (WCC) Tournament in Las Vegas, where they proudly represented USD at one of the biggest events of the year.

USD Cheer at a Glance
  • Competitive Style Routines: USD Cheer showcases competitive-style routines while supporting USD Athletics with game-day sideline performances for Football, Volleyball, and Men's and Women's Basketball and Soccer.
  • Performance Commitment: The team performs at pregame, timeouts, halftimes, and sidelines for approximately 120 performances throughout the season.
  • Community Outreach: USD Cheer is deeply involved in the USD community and San Diego County, collaborating with other programs around campus, including club and recreational sports, Greek Life, ASG, and USD President's Welcome. They also participate in events throughout the community, engaging with groups and local high schools and middle schools.
  • Fundraising: The team actively participates in fundraising efforts at local cheer competitions.
  • WCC Basketball Tournament: USD Cheer attends both the WCC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments in Las Vegas to support the teams and enhance the atmosphere.
  • Summer Camps: Team members attend the NCA Collegiate Summer Camp and the California Allstars Skills Camps to further their development.
  • Future Goals: As the program grows, the goal is to compete at the USA Collegiate Championships and the NCA Collegiate Nationals.

Meet the Coach – Jaime Arroyo

Under the leadership of new Head Coach Jaime Arroyo, USD Cheer has reached new heights. Arroyo brings years of experience from The California Allstars, where he has coached and choreographed since 2016, as well as serving as a Head Instructor for the National Cheerleaders Association. His expertise in choreography, tumbling, and stunting progression has helped transform USD Cheer into a high-caliber program.

Coach Arroyo's philosophy:

"My hope is to inspire by having our athletes dedicate their time with USD Cheer by promoting hard work and passion for cheerleading, the sports we support, and the university. As ambassadors of USD, cheerleaders will gain confidence, teamwork, and commitment. USD Cheer believes 'The work is worth it!' We know the experiences and dedication to the USD Cheer program will be worth it!"
