MORAGA, Calif. — San Diego baseball (11-24, 6-3 WCC) overcame an early deficit to beat Saint Mary's on Sunday afternoon, prevailing 7-2 over the Gaels (15-19, 2-7 WCC) at Louis Guisto Field to sweep SMC and secure its fifth straight win.
The Toreros were down 2-0 in the top of the fifth inning when
Austin Smith tied the game with a two-out, two-RBI single to right field. An inning later,
Jayden Lobliner hammered a go-ahead home run over the left-field wall, and USD didn't trail again.
USD added four insurance runs across the eighth and ninth innings, expanding its advantage via RBI singles from
Jack Gurevitch and
Rex Watson, an SMC error that allowed
Aden Howard to dash home from third, and a bases-loaded walk drawn by
Connor Meidroth.
Andrew Mosiello (2-4) picked up the win after firing 5.2 scoreless innings in relief of starter
David Horn Jr. Mosiello allowed just two hits after entering out of the bullpen in the bottom of the third, walking none as he tied his season high with six strikeouts.
Hayden Cody needed just 13 pitches to toss a scoreless ninth, working around a walk and a hit as he notched a single strikeout.
