Watson and Reddemann Lead Series-Opening Win Over Portland

Toreros beat Pilots 6-3 on Thursday night at Fowler Park to begin pivotal WCC matchup

SAN DIEGO — Seven strong innings from Logan Reddemann and another home run from reigning WCC Freshman of the Week Rex Watson powered San Diego baseball to a 6-3 victory over Portland on Thursday night, earning the Toreros (12-24, 7-3 WCC) a sixth straight win as they downed the Pilots (17-21, 9-4 WCC) in the series opener at Fowler Park.

Jack Gurevitch and Isaiah Lane began the bottom of the first inning with singles, and were plated by a sharp ground ball off the bat of AJ Beltre. Watson immediately followed suit by belting a two-run homer over the right field wall to extend USD's lead to 4-0.

Neither team scored again until the sixth inning of play, when Portland registered an RBI double and an RBI single to cut San Diego's advantage in half. USD responded in the bottom of the frame with an RBI groundout from Jayden Lobliner that made it 5-2.

USD's early four-spot was more than enough run support for Reddemann, who stranded a pair of runners in the top of the first inning before holding the Pilots scoreless for Thursday night's first 5.2 innings.

Dallin Harrison took over in the eighth and gave up a solo home run, but quickly recovered by striking out the next three batters he faced.
Aden Howard got that run back in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single on an 0-2 pitch, putting San Diego ahead 6-3.

Austin Smith earned his team-leading second save of 2025 after moving from center field to the mound to toss a 1-2-3 ninth.
