SAN DIEGO – Top-seeded San Diego cruised to it's ninth consecutive WCC Tournament Final Friday by way of a 5-0 sweep of No. 56 Pacific at the Aztec Tennis Center.
The No. 7 Toreros will face No. 25 Pepperdine in the final tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. on San Diego State's campus, in search of a repeat title. Winners of the last four conference regular season titles, USD will look for it's eighth championship in the last nine tournaments. San Diego bested Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif., 4-2, last weekend.
Friday afternoon's semifinal contest was a comfortable one for the Toreros. USD used 6-3 and 6-2 wins from its top two doubles pairings respectively to claim the day's first point.
In singles competition, grad
Savriyan Danilov carried the momentum over on court two, posting a 6-0, 6-2 win; dropping only two of 14 games. Freshman
Adrien Berrut followed his vet doubles teammate, finishing next at 6-2, 6-3 on court four.
It was then that three match points were taking place concurrently, a phenomenon in college tennis. The match points in question took place on courts one, three, and five; quite literally in a row.
It was ITA No. 3
Oliver Tarvet's match point that would finish first on court one, 6-2, 6-1, officially clinching the match at 4-0. Then, his No. 5 ranked junior doubles partner
Stian Klaassen finished his point, winning 7-5, 6-0, moving the score to 5-0. Lastly, junior
Neo Niedner lost his match point, seeing his match unfortunately go unfinished at 6-4, 5-1 in a no-ad deuce.
