SAN DIEGO — Seventh-ranked USD Men's Tennis completed it's perfect weekend on Thursday afternoon as it swept the 63rd-ranked Pacific Tigers 4-0 in a strong, collective victory to earn it's fifth straight win to start conference play, and seventh 4-0 shutout of the season.
The defending conference champ Toreros claim sole possession of first in the conference after the Tigers topped No. 20 Pepperdine on Saturday.
The victory started in the doubles point, when the Toreros found themselves down after they dropped number three doubles. The No. 3 ranked pairing in junior Oliver Tarvet and redshirt-junior Stian Klaassen then knotted the doubles competition up at one each with a 6-4 win against the No. 63 ranked doubles pair. Grad Savriyan Danilov and freshman Adrien Berrut then clinched the point for USD with a win on court two to put their team up 1-0.
San Diego's momentum carried right into the singles point, where it took early first set leads in each of the six matches. Berrut struck first on court five with a 6-2, 6-4 win before junior Neo Niedner won his match seconds later with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, giving USD two quick points as they took a 3-0 lead.
Grad Blake Kasday sealed the deal at No. 6 singles just minutes later, defeating his opponent with a pair of 6-3 set victories, securing the sweep for the Toreros and cutting the remaining matches short on courts one, two and three.
San Diego will be back in action on the road Friday when it travels to Portland to take on the Portland Pilots. First serve is set for 11 a.m..
