HISTORY VS. THE FIELD
• The Toreros have now made 20 NCAA Tournaments, 13 of the last 14 since 2011 ... The Toreros have never made it past the second round (R32), while winning their own regional would poise them to host a Super Regional Sweet 16 matchup with the winner of the Berkeley Regional (No. 11/11 California, No. 16 UCLA, No. 35 UC Santa Barbara, No. 42 Boise State)
• San Diego is 14-1 all-time against the Anteaters ... The last meeting was in 2022's NCAA Tournament first round in Los Angeles, which the Toreros won 4-0 then fell to No. 13 USC ... USD has won 11-straight vs. UCI since a 3-4 loss at home on Feb. 15, 2008 ... UC Irvine is 7-4 against common opponents shared with USD this season, whom the Toreros are 12-0 against.
• The Toreros are 2-22 all-time against USC, a 4-1 home win on Feb. 27 this season being the Toreros first win against the Trojans since 2006 ... San Diego beat then No. 21 Southern California with the doubles point, Vasa on court two, Klaassen on court three, and Niedner on court five (Tarvet was out injured)
• USD is 5-4 all-time again Arizona State, a 4-3 road win earlier this season on Feb. 23 being a fifth victory in the last six years against the Sun Devils ... The Toreros won the doubles point, but were down 1-3 until Danilov won at No. 1 singles, Klaassen at No. 3 singles, and Niedner clinched the comeback at No. 5 singles (Tarvet was out injured)
THE TORERO RESUME AT A GLANCE
• For San Diego, the résumé that earned the team it's first ever hosting opportunity and program-best seed of No. 6 is vast. Within the 24-3 overall record are 11 wins against top-25 teams, a 6-3 record against top-15 teams. The 22 regular season wins is the most in program history. San Diego's story of the season has been the grit and resilience – 5-1 in best-of-seven full-length 4-3 decisions, several after being down multiple points.
• Winners of ten straight and 11-1 overall on home courts, USD also swept everything the West Coast Conference had to offer: 7-0 en route to a fourth straight WCC regular season title, perfect at the WCC tournament last weekend to win back-to-back titles there and an eighth in the last nine years.
• San Diego swept the conference awards too, with Tarvet as WCC Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons, Keckley took his fifth career conference coach of the year award and Adrien Berrut merited freshman of the year.
THE TORERO LINEUP AT A GLANCE
• The Toreros are led by two-time WCC Player of the Year Tarvet, the third-ranked player in the country, who is 18-1 on the season, 7 wins over top-25 opponents including over ITA No. 1 Michael Zheng, and the lone loss being a medical retirement.
• Tarvet combines with junior Stian Klaassen to make the nation's No. 11 duo, a 15-3 record, and First Team All-WCC pairing who won the ITA Fall National Championships together. Tarvet also won the ITA Fall National Championships Singles title, making him the fifth player ever to win both titles.
• At No. 2 singles is grad Savriyan Danilov who holds a 16-4 season record and ITA ranking of No. 83. Positioned at No. 3 singles, Klaassen, who is 17-3 on the year. Both are also First Team All-WCC honorees.
• Playing in the fourth singles spot is the WCC Freshman of the Year Berrut who is 13-7 in singles play. Berrut and Danilov combine at No. 2 doubles, and All-WCC Honorable Mention pairing. At No. 5 singles is German junior Neo Niedner, 13-6, on the year and a Second Team All-WCC pick who delivered multiple of the season's big clinches, including in the WCC Championship match.
• At the helm of it all is 10th-year head coach Ryan Keckley who won his fifth career WCC Coach of the Year award, third in the last four seasons.
CONFERENCE DOMINANCE
• San Diego lengthened it's reign over the West Coast Conference over the past couple weekends, continuing streaks of WCC Regular Season and WCC Tournament titles
• WCC Regular Season Champs: With a 7-0 record in the WCC for the first time since 2022, the Toreros claimed not only their fourth-straight WCC Championship, but seventh in the last eight years, 10th in the last 12 years and 13th overall in program history
• WCC Tournament Champs: After a 5-0 sweep of No. 56 Pacific in the semifinal last Friday and a 4-2 win over No. 25 Pepperdine on Saturday not only made it back-to-back tournament titles, but and eighth in the last nine seasons
THEY'RE ALL ALL-CONFERENCE
• A flood of WCC end-of-year awards came in for San Diego Men's Tennis on the week of Apri 24, as every single player on the roster won an award, highlighted by sweeping Coach, Player, and Freshman of the Year honors alongside eight all-conference awards on the courts and six all-academic.
• Torero Junior Oliver Tarvet made it back-to-back seasons as WCC Player of the Year. Star first-year Adrien Berrut was named Freshman of the Year, and Head Coach Ryan Keckley collected his fifth career Coach of the Year award in year ten at the helm of the program.
• In addition to Tarvet, grad Savriyan Danilov and redshirt-junior Stian Klaassen were tabbed First Team All-WCC for singles ... Junior Neo Niedner and Berrut were Second Team and senior Iiro Vasa All-WCC Honorable Mention in singles ... Tarvet and Klaassen were also First Team for doubles while Berrut and Danilov paired for All-WCC Honorable Mention in doubles
• Klaassen, Niedner and redshirt-junior Nikhil Niranjan were elected to the WCC All-Academic Team ... Danilov, Vasa and grad Blake Kasday merited All-Academic Honorable Mentions
SNATCHING WCC WEEKLYS ... AGAIN
• Toreros won 12 of the 28 WCC Player of the Week and WCC Doubles Team of the Week awards this season, sweeping in four weeks ... Four different doubles pairings (Tarvet/Klaassen two times), and three singles players (Tarvet five times) have won the awards
A PROGRAM-BEST START TO THE SPRING
• Prior to a 2-4 loss to the then No. 1 and defending national champion TCU Horned Frogs in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 15, the Toreros had accumulated eight straight wins to start the season (five against top-25 opponents), the best start to a season in team history
TOP OF THE INDIVIDUAL CHARTS
• Following a sweep of the ITA All-American Championship titles, Stian Klaassen and Oliver Tarvet found themselves atop the ITA doubles rankings and as the No. 1 overall seed for the NCAA Doubles Championships while Tarvet was ranked second in singles (under No. 1 Michael Zheng)
• The No. 1 doubles rating is the first time a Torero duo has reached the summit of the ITA's rankings ... Tarvet No. 2 allotment in singles tied August Holmgren's program record in 2022, who fell to Ben Shelton in the NCAA Singles Championships title match
TOREROS SWEEP ITA ALL-AMERICAN TITLES
• In the fall's first big tournament, Oliver Tarvet and Stian Klaassen swept the ITA All-American Championship titles handily
• Tarvet became the just the fifth player to win both the singles and doubles title at the season's first big national tournament, the first since 2015
• The pair were the first All-Americans in any NCAA DI Sport nationally this year
A HOT START TO THE FALL
• San Diego Men's Tennis hosted the 67th Annual Men's USTA SoCal Intercollegiate Championships from Sept. 26-29, ending with an all-USD doubles title and Toreros reaching both finals
• That marks three tournaments, six of six finals reached and three titles to start the Toreros fall tennis season. The toreros also won both titles at the ITA All-American Championships on Sunday and reached both finals of the highly touted Battle in the Bay on Sept. 15
