SAN DIEGO — A seven-run fourth inning from Cal State Fullerton dealt San Diego baseball a 10-4 defeat on Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup at Fowler Park.
Both teams were scoreless until that fateful frame, when the Titans (26-22, 16-8 Big West) built their lead with a trio of RBI singles and a bases-loaded walk.
A double steal in the bottom of the fourth got the Toreros (20-27, 14-14 WCC) on the board, making the score 7-1 when
AJ Beltre dashed home from third as
Aden Howard swiped second.
An inning later, USD pulled back within three after
Nico Libed scored on an error, Beltre notched an RBI single, and
Cade Martinez scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 7-3.
CSF responded with a pair of insurance runs to put the game out of reach, scoring once in the eighth and twice in the ninth to secure the victory.
Tristan LaMaison threw three scoreless and hitless innings to begin the game for San Diego, and was followed by a quintet of Torero relievers.
Jack Giordano,
Jack McWilliams, and
AJ Beltre all fired scoreless frames, with Beltre turning in the longest outing of the bunch (1.2 innings).
