Team USA led late in the fifth set, even pushing the Spaniards to match point when it roared back to life and took a 14-13 lead. Ties ensued at 15-15 and 16-16 as Team Spain fought back, and it eventually closed a thrilling final frame and the match itself by scoring back-to-back points to earn a 3-2 win.
Kylie Munday racked up 44 assists in the loss.
Olivia Bennett and
Kali Engeman led the USA defense with 14 digs and four blocks, respectively.
