SAN DIEGO – The three-time defending West Coast Conference champion #9/10 San Diego men's soccer team are back to work this week as they kick off their 2025 season with a pair of matchups against postseason teams a season ago. San Diego enters the new season picked to win the WCC for the first time since the 2012 season as they feature a roster with 30 returners from last season's squad that reached the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. 

Heading into the new season, USD had four student-athletes named to the All-WCC Preseason Team as seniors Vicente Ayala, Cesar Bahena and Samy Kanaan as well as graduate student Ethan Warne each earned that distinction following a great first three years as Toreros. 

The 2025 edition of the Torero squad will begin their journey with a familiar opponent to open the season as they'll take on #15 Duke on Thursday, August 21 at 5:00 p.m. PST and will then lace it up against #20 Furman for a neutral site matchup in Durham on Sunday, August 24 at 10:00 a.m. PST.

San Diego will be facing the Blue Devils for the third time in the last two seasons, as the two teams met at Torero Stadium in a match that ended in a 2-all draw, and then bested Duke at their home stadium in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament with a late goal to earn a 1-0 victory. The postseason win marked the first time in USD program history that they defeated the Blue Devils in five previous chances. 

USD will be taking on the Paladins for the first time in program history as the reigning Southern Conference champions put together a 9-4-6 campaign in 2024 that saw them reach the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament as they upset North Carolina before following short on the road to Marshall. 

The Toreros' season opener will be live streamed through ACC Network Extra, and live stats will be provided by Statbroadcast. Sunday's match will not be livestreamed, but a live stats link can be found via the team's website.
