SAN BRUNO, Calif. — After setting forth a dominant performance that helped San Diego go undefeated at the Husky Invitational in Seattle, redshirt junior middle blocker
Maya Kitna has been named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week for September 15, 2025, the West Coast Conference announced on Monday afternoon.
Kitna collected 12 blocks (four solo) and 10 digs last weekend, helping the Toreros go undefeated against Arizona and Washington at Alaska Airlines Arena. Kitna registered six blocks (one solo) and five digs on Saturday in a 3-2 win over the Wildcats, then added another six blocks (three solo) and another five digs on Sunday in a five-set win over the tournament host Huskies.
Kitna is the fourth Torero to earn a WCC weekly award this season and the second to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors, joining
BayLea Sparks (September 1, Defensive Player of the Week),
Nemo Beach (September 1, Offensive Player of the Week), and
Kylie Munday (September 1, WCC Setter of the Week).
