SAN DIEGO – Returning to America's Finest City for a neutral site matchup, the San Diego women's tennis team played out a 6-1 victory over BYU on Friday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center.
 
San Diego claimed the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 scores backed by the doubles partners of USD newbies Charlotte Keitel and Maria Shmakova who won the first point on court two. Sophomores Hannah Read and Anni Moll followed in pursuit and won the clinching point on court three to give the Toreros the lead heading into singles play.

The Toreros shined in the remaining points needed for the win in singles play, clinching a victory by swift straight sets led by freshman Vilma Krebs Hyllested who won 6-4, 6-1 on court three. Fellow freshman Shmakova followed it up winning her match 6-4, 6-3 and nationally ranked No. 53 Hannah Read battled for the game-winning point as she won 7-5, 6-4 giving USD women's tennis a victory to bounce back from a loss to No. 5 LSU.
 
Despite having already clinched the match at 4-0, the Toreros played out the remaining fixtures. Junior Kristina Nordikyan won the first and last sets of her match, while sophomore Gabby Gregg bounced back from losing her first set to dominating the last two 6-0, 6-1.

The Toreros stay in San Diego for a two-game homestand as the program hosts Cal Poly at the Hogan Tennis Center on Sunday, Jan. 25 at noon.
