BACK AT TORERO STADIUM
• Wednesday is San Diego's first home match since the Oct. 10 loss to Portland and the fifth of the season at Torero Stadium, where the Toreros are 2-1-1.
• San Diego has outshot its four home opponents 65-35 and outscored them 9-7, beating Liberty 3-1 and San Diego State 2-1 and drawing Denver 0-0.
• Before Portland's visit, the Toreros had gone 13 straight regular-season home matches without a loss (11-0-2).
• San Diego has drawn 4,165 fans to four home matches, an average of 1,041, led by a season-high 2,242 against San Diego State on Sept. 13.
• Two of the Toreros' final four regular-season matches are at home: Santa Clara on Wednesday and Saint Mary's on Nov. 6.
• San Diego is 5-2-2 on the road after the win at Pacific, with five wins in nine road matches. The Toreros have scored 14 goals and allowed nine away from home.
RAMIREZ REACHES 20
•
Steven Ramirez's penalty kick at Pacific was the 20th goal of his career: one as a freshman in 2023, four in 2024, eight in 2025 and seven this season.
• He has scored in four straight matches, at LMU, at San Francisco, against Portland and at Pacific, the longest scoring run by a Torero this season.
• One more goal would match last season's total of eight, with four regular-season matches left.
• All three of San Diego's penalty kicks this season have been taken and converted by Ramirez: at UC Santa Barbara, at San Francisco and at Pacific.
• His seven goals account for nearly a third of San Diego's 23, and he leads the team with 15 points, 39 shots and 12 shots on target.
WINNING THE SHOT BATTLE
• San Diego has taken more shots than its opponent in eight of 13 matches and is 6-1-1 in those games. The lone loss was the 5-4 decision against Portland, when San Diego held a 17-14 edge.
• Shots were even in two matches, a 1-0 loss at Kansas City (12-12) and the 2-2 draw at San Francisco (18-18). San Diego is 1-1-1 when outshot, a group that includes the 2-1 win at No. 1 Washington.
• The 24-3 margin at Pacific was the widest of the season. The Toreros had also outshot Denver 16-6, UC Irvine 14-6 and San Diego State 16-7.
• Pacific's three shots were the fewest by a Torero opponent this season, half the previous low of six by UC Irvine and Denver.
• San Diego averages 14.6 shots per match to its opponents' 10.9 and puts 36% of its attempts on target, compared with 29% for opponents.
COMING FROM BEHIND
• San Diego has conceded first in seven of its 13 matches and is 3-3-1 in them. It is 4-0-1 when scoring first, after
Taj Eagleston's 14th- minute opener at Pacific.
• Three of the Toreros' seven wins have come after conceding the first goal: against Liberty on Aug. 23, at UC Irvine on Sept. 8 and at LMU on Sept. 30.
• The three losses after conceding first were 1-0 road defeats at No. 1 Stanford, on an 89th-minute goal, and at Kansas City, where the Toreros played the final 54 minutes with 10 men, and the 5-4 home loss to Portland.
• Even down 5-2 against Portland, San Diego scored twice in 1:58 through
Kevin Pena to make it 5-4 with 17 minutes to play.
• The answer at LMU took 68 seconds. The Lions scored at 21:45, and
Steven Ramirez equalized at 22:53.
• San Diego trailed 1-0 at halftime against Liberty and at UC Irvine. The Toreros scored three times between the 54th and 64th minutes to beat the Flames 3-1, then scored twice in a span of 2:21 to beat the Anteaters 2-1.
• The Toreros have been quick to capitalize elsewhere as well. Ramirez scored twice in 91 seconds against Liberty,
Luca Fava's winner at California Baptist came 45 seconds after the Lancers went down to 10 men, and
Iain Wagner scored 77 seconds after San Diego went down a man at Pacific.
HELP FROM THE BENCH
• Substitutes have scored four of San Diego's 23 goals:
Conner Gardenhour at UC Irvine,
Devin Zachry at San Francisco and
Kevin Pena twice against Portland.
• Gardenhour scored seven minutes after entering at halftime at UC Irvine, starting the comeback in a 2-1 win, and Zachry equalized at San Francisco less than 10 minutes after coming on in the 32nd minute.
• Pena turned his two goals off the bench against Portland into his first start of the season at Pacific, where he assisted
Taj Eagleston's opener.
• Substitutes have also set up four goals:
Jaxson Findlay and
Matteo Salcedo against Liberty,
Tony Ramirez at California Baptist and
Samy Kanaan against San Diego State.
• Zachry has come off the bench in all 13 matches, and Findlay and
Elijah Zelkind have nine substitute appearances each.
• Twenty-four Toreros have played this season, and 21 have made at least one start.

Iain Wagner is next with 1,070.
•
Devin Dillon (993),

Luca Fava (891) and
Oliver Rhoades (849) give San Diego seven players with more than 800 minutes.

WHERE THE TOREROS STAND
• San Diego is unranked in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 but received seven votes. It is the Toreros' second week outside the poll after appearing in each of the first eight releases of the season.
• San Diego is also unranked in the Top Drawer Soccer Top 25.
• USD opened the season at No. 18 in the coaches poll and climbed to No. 2 on Aug. 25, the highest the program has ever appeared in that poll.
• The Toreros reached No. 1 in the Top Drawer Soccer Division I Top 25 on Aug. 24, the first time the program has held the top spot in a national poll.
• San Diego's previous best in either poll was No. 3, reached in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 on Nov. 5, 2024, at 12-1-2.
• Four 2026 opponents are in this week's coaches poll: No. 5 Kansas City, No. 7 Washington, No. 19 UCLA, which hosts the Toreros on Sunday, and Portland, tied for No. 21. San Diego beat Washington 2-1 in the opener and lost to Kansas City and Portland.
COACH QUINN AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS
• Since taking over in 2018, head coach
Brian Quinn has faced ranked opponents 24 times and is 8-11-5 in those matches.
• No. 1 Washington remains both the highest-ranked opponent of the Quinn era and his highest-ranked win, ahead of a 2018 meeting with No. 2 Duke that the Toreros dropped.
• That list of wins also includes No. 6 Washington in 2023, No. 7 Portland in 2022, No. 10 Duke in 2024 and No. 10 Oregon State in 2025.
• Stanford was the 12th top-10 opponent of the Quinn era and the fourth top-three opponent since 2018.
• San Diego is 1-2-0 against ranked teams this season, with both losses by a 1-0 score. UCLA, No. 19 this week, would be the 25th ranked opponent of the Quinn era if it is still ranked at kickoff Sunday.
BEATING A NO. 1
• USD's Aug. 20 win at Washington was the fifth time in program history San Diego has beaten a No. 1-ranked opponent, and the first under
Brian Quinn. The Huskies were the defending national champions.
• The previous one came Sept. 26, 2014, a 1-0 win over No. 1 UCLA at Torero Stadium in front of a program-record crowd of 4,432.
•
Taj Eagleston opened the scoring in the 11th minute in Seattle, finishing an assist from
Steven Ramirez whose own strike had been cleared off the goal line.
Devin Dillon doubled the lead in the 53rd.
•
Lucca Adams went the full 90 and made four saves against 16 Washington shots and 11 corner kicks. The result moved San Diego to 3-3-2 all time against the Huskies.
