Faklaris Scores Early, Toreros Draw San Francisco 1-1 in Home Finale

Kaylee Smith sets up the fourth-minute header and Ilise Medrano makes three saves

SAN DIEGO — Hannah Faklaris headed San Diego women's soccer into a fourth-minute lead Wednesday afternoon, and the Toreros closed their regular-season home schedule with a 1-1 West Coast Conference draw against San Francisco at Torero Stadium.

Kaylee Smith swung in a corner kick from the left, and Faklaris met it at the back post, heading it back across goal from 6 yards out for her second goal of the season. Smith nearly doubled the lead in the ninth minute with a shot that forced a save.

San Diego held 59% of possession and outshot the Dons 6-3 in the first half. San Francisco didn't put a shot on target until the 30th minute, and Ilise Medrano was there to turn it away.

Marissa Morales forced a save in the 53rd minute, and Ella Callanan and Tamia Graham followed with two more shots in the next 10 seconds before the Toreros won a corner. Veronica Osejo, whose first career goal was the winner against Portland this past Saturday, tested the keeper in the 60th minute, and Abby Haley put another shot on frame in the 78th.

Medrano made two of her three saves after halftime, in the 66th and 72nd minutes, and San Diego led for more than 86 minutes before San Francisco equalized in the 90th. The Toreros finished with a 13-12 edge in shots, and both teams put five on target.
