No. 22 Toreros Stay Unbeaten in WCC Play with 2-2 Draw at San Francisco

Devin Zachry and Steven Ramirez score, Lucca Adams makes eight saves and USD moves to 1-0-2 in WCC play

SAN FRANCISCO — Devin Zachry scored off the bench and Steven Ramirez converted a penalty kick as the No. 22 Toreros (6-2-3, 1-0-2 WCC) played San Francisco (4-4-4, 0-0-3 WCC) to a 2-2 draw Saturday night at Negoesco Stadium.

The draw keeps USD unbeaten through three West Coast Conference matches. Lucca Adams made eight saves in goal, five of them before halftime.

San Francisco opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Zachry entered as one of three Torero substitutes in the 32nd minute and needed less than 10 minutes to answer, scoring in the 42nd with assists from Iain Wagner and Luca Fava. It was his first goal of the season.

Ramirez put the Toreros in front in the 53rd minute, converting a penalty kick for his fifth goal of the season. San Francisco drew level in the 64th minute.

Both sides had chances to win it late. Taj Eagleston forced a save in the 73rd minute, and Adams stopped a shot in the 88th before the Dons' final attempt sailed high in the 90th.

Shots finished even at 18 apiece, with USD holding a 10-8 edge after halftime. The Toreros also had 56% of possession and a 10-9 advantage in corner kicks. Ramirez led USD with five shots, and Eagleston and Wagner added three each.
