LAST TIME OUT
  • The Toreros held 54% of possession and matched LMU with four shots on target last Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Field, but the Lions scored in the 83rd minute for a 1-0 win.
  • Ilise Medrano went the full 90 minutes in goal and made three saves, turning away LMU in the 16th, 54th and 67th minutes to keep the match scoreless deep into the second half.
  • San Diego held 51% of the possession in the first half, also winning three of the half's five corners. Amanda Anders forced a save in the 33rd minute and Lily Johnson took two of her team-high three shots before the break.
  • San Diego pushed harder after halftime, putting up eight shots in the second half, twice its first-half total. Marissa Morales was on target with both of her attempts, in the 65th and 75th minutes, and the first of them set off a flurry, with two Torero corners and a blocked Kate Sealy shot in the next 40 seconds.
  • LMU broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute, and the Toreros went right back at the Lions. Ella Callanan forced a save one minute later as San Diego chased the equalizer.
THEY SAID IT
  • "Obviously we're disappointed with the result," head coach Greg LaPorte said. "I thought LMU defended very well for the entire game and made it difficult for us to break them down. At the same time, I thought most of their dangerous moments came from us turning the ball over, and ultimately they caught us on one of those moments in transition. In a tight conference game, the margins are incredibly small. We had some really good moments and created chances that were good enough to change the game, but we have to be more clinical and turn those opportunities into goals. Ultimately we have to find a way to get the result."
ALL-TIME SERIES WITH SEATTLE U
  • The Toreros all-time record with the Redhawks is 2-2-0, with their last meeting being on Nov. 8, 2025 where Seattle U took a 3-1 decision at Torero Stadium.

  • Las Toreras last played at Championship Field in Seattle, WA on Aug. 24, 2023, where the match resulted in a 1-0 victory for San Diego.

CHLOE WALLS NAMED WCC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK (AUG. 17)
  • San Diego redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Chloe Walls was named the WCC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Aug. 17, 2026.
  • Walls turned aside four shots, including a 41st-minute penalty kick, to preserve a clean sheet against CSU Fullerton on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026.
  • The honor is Walls' second conference weekly award of her career, following her Defensive Player of the Week nod on Aug. 25, 2025 for her stellar career debut performances in net to start last season.
  • She is the first Torero to be recognized since Amanda Anders earned Offensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 8, 2025.
AMANDA ANDERS NAMED TO WCC PRESEASON TEAM (AUG. 4)
  • San Diego forward Amanda Anders was named to the 2026 West Coast Conference Women's Soccer Preseason Team, the league announced on August 4. Anders was the lone Torero selected, and the first USD player picked to the preseason team since Milan Moses in 2019.
  • The recognition follows a freshman season in which Anders emerged as one of the WCC's most dangerous attacking threats. In 17 games, she scored six goals — the ninth-best mark in the conference — and added two assists for eight points.
  • Anders' debut was as memorable as any in recent program history. She came off the bench in her first collegiate match, a 3-3 draw with Cal Poly on August 14, and scored twice, including the tying goal with eight minutes left — becoming the first Torero freshman in 12 years to record a brace in her debut. It earned her the first of two WCC Offensive Player of the Week honors on the season, making her the first Torero ever to win the award since it split into offensive and defensive categories in 2019.
  • Anders earned her second Offensive Player of the Week honor three weeks later after another two-goal game off the bench in a 6-0 win over UC Riverside, vaulting her to the WCC's goal-scoring lead. She went on to score the game-winning goal in USD's 2-1 win at Portland and finished the year on the All-WCC Freshman Team.
  • The sport runs in the family — Anders' mother, Sherice (Bartling) Anders, starred at USD before playing professionally in the WUSA for the Boston Breakers, and was in the stands for her daughter's historic debut.
LAST YEAR: THE BEST START IN PROGRAM HISTORY

San Diego women's soccer head coach Greg LaPorte led the Toreros to the program's best start in program history in 2025. His second season at the helm in San Diego saw USD accomplish the following:
  • Go undefeated in non-conference play for the first time in program history
  • Start the season on an eight-match unbeaten streak
  • Remain unbeaten until September 26, 2025, making them one of the last teams without a loss in the nation.
  • Score 28 goals in 2025, which doubled the total from a year before and quadrupled the total from the season before LaPorte's takeover in 2023, which was also the program's most since 2019
  • 13 individual Toreros combined for 28 total assists in 2025, which marked the most in a single season for the program in at least seven years
