SAN DIEGO — Getting back into the win column, San Diego women's tennis posted a 7-0 sweep of Hawaii at Hogan Tennis Center Thursday.
 
To start the day, the USD pairing of Kristina Nordikyan and Vilma Krebs Hyllested remained undefeated in its last three with a 6-2 win, finishing first on main court. With a thumping start on court three, Maria Shmakova and Charlotte Keitel won 6-2, boosted by their 4-0 start, to clinch the doubles point for USD.
 
In the backend of the singles courts, Shmakova continued her hot start to her freshman campaign as she won the first eight games of her match, propelling herself to a 6-0, 6-2 dominant victory on court five. She improved to 5-1 overall on the season, winning her last four matches. 
 
Fellow freshman Krebs Hyllested followed pursuit, as she commanded court four winning in a mirrored 6-2, 6-0 match to extend USD's lead to 3-0. Krebs Hyllested's victory also extends a winning streak, as she has won three of her last four. 
 
Sophomore Gabby Gregg also went on streaks of her own, winning consecutive games to finish out both of her 6-2 sets, clinching the dual for San Diego at 4-0.
 
The remaining courts would play out the remainder of the matches, as next, defending WCC Freshman of the Year Hannah Read was able to push the lead to 5-0 USD. After trading games back-and-forth in the first set, eventually at three games a player, Read pulled away to win the first set 6-4, before winning the first four of the second set to help her win 6-1. 
 
Keitel battled in a return to the main court, as she lost the first set 0-6 before exploding for four straight games at the end of the second set to win 6-2. Keitel finished the comeback and deciding third set with back-to-back aces to win 6-4 and make it 6-0 USD. 
 
The Toreros weren't done yet, as freshman Ines Leon got her first collegiate win after a 10-3 third-set tiebreaker win, starting the deciding tiebreak with seven unanswered points on court three.
