San Diego Drops Road Decision at Loyola Marymount

Kylie Ray leads Toreros with 17 points on Saturday afternoon at the Gersten Pavilion

LOS ANGELES — On the road for the last time this season, the Toreros (9-20, 3-13 WCC) fell to the LMU Lions (19-8, 13-3 WCC) 74-61 on Saturday afternoon.

Kylie Ray paced the Toreros with 17 points and four assists, while Helen Holley added seven points and a team-high five rebounds. Olivia Owens chipped in 11 points off the bench, providing a spark for a San Diego squad.

LMU opened up the game on a 22-5 run and never looked back, leaving the Toreros to fight from behind for the remainder of the contest.
San Diego was unable to recover the early deficit, spending the remainder of the contest chasing a Lions squad that controlled the pace and the paint throughout.

The Toreros showed fight in the fourth quarter, turning LMU turnovers into opportunities and gradually chipping away at the lead. Helen Holley, Malia Tharpe, and Olivia Owens were particularly disruptive on the defensive end, recording multiple steals that helped San Diego close the margin to within 10 — the closest the Toreros would get all afternoon.
