Box Score SEATTLE – San Diego women's tennis stormed back for a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Utah at a neutral site on Saturday evening.
 
"It's never easy to come back from down 1-3, especially against an experienced indoor team," head coach Nadia Abdala said. "We stayed composed, created momentum and found a way."
 
The Toreros knew it would be a tough match from the start, with San Diego coming in ranked No. 30 in the season's first computer rankings while the Utes were No. 33 but had substantially more experience playing on indoor courts.
 
And a tough, close, match it was. After a 6-2 win on court two by the USD sophomore pairing of Hannah Read and Anni Moll the other two courts were knotted at 5-5, leaving the doubles point in the balance. Utah struck and claimed both 7-5 to take the match's first point.
 
Sophomore Gabby Gregg quickly evened the score and put the Toreros on the board with an immaculate double bagel, a 6-0, 6-0 victory for the Aussie on court six. The Utes responded again, however, claiming straight set wins of their own on courts four and one to get out to a threatening 3-1 lead.
 
With their backs against the walls of the Norsdtrom Tennis Center indoor facility, the Toreros would need the remaining three courts to pull off a victory.
 
First, freshman Maria Shmakova claimed a point on court five with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Then, it was the ITA No. 112 Read on court two with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 victory to even the score at three apiece.
 
That left the match in the hands of a freshman, Vilma Krebs Hyllested, in a third set battle on court three. The Dane shone through and epitomized San Diego's comeback as she bounced back from a 5-7 dropped first set to win the next two 6-3 and walk-off the match for the Toreros.
 
"Matches like this build the toughness we'll need tomorrow against Washington."

USD will hope to ride the momentum into the next day as it takes to the Nordstrom Tennis Center courts again on Sunday for a true road tilt against No. 17 Washington at noon.
