Lobliner Homers as No. 18 OSU Defeats USD in Weekend Finale

Beavers score in six different innings to deal Toreros 10-3 loss on Sunday afternoon at Fowler Park

SAN DIEGO — San Diego baseball dropped a 10-3 decision to No. 18 Oregon State in Sunday afternoon's series finale at Fowler Park.

The Toreros (7-12, 0-0 West Coast Conference) allowed three runs in the second inning and one in the fourth before giving up at least one in each of the final four frames

Trailing 7-0, San Diego broke through and scored three times in the bottom of the seventh. CJ Moran led off the inning with a walk before back-to-back singles from Cade Martinez and Connor Meiroth brought home Moran.

Two batters later, Jayden Lobliner launched his sixth home run of the season, scoring Martinez to get the deficit back to four.

Drake Frize got his fifth start of the season, going three innings. He pitched to contact with eight of the nine outs he recorded coming on balls in play. Outside of the trouble he faced in the second inning, the graduate student put up zeros in the first and third innings, including a strikeout to end his day.

Fernando Palencia matched Frize with three innings of work out of the bullpen followed, by one inning apiece from Hayden Cody, Porter Rovin and Jagger Edwards

The Toreros had a couple of chances before scoring in the seventh. With one out in the first inning, Gabe Springer doubled to right-center field to get into scoring position before being left there when the inning came to an end.

In the third, Cade Martinez laid down a bunt for a base hit to flip the lineup back to the top for Connor Meidroth, who was hit by a pitch. A passed ball moved both of them up 90 feet into scoring position, but they advanced no further.

San Diego led off the fourth with consecutive singles from Andrew Gauna and Aden Howard. However, after a sacrifice bunt by Jayton Greer moved Gauna and Howard up 90 feet, both were left on base.

Oregon State (14-4) had four players with multiple hits Sunday, including Cooper Vance going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. He also had one of four home runs for the Beavers.
