Seth Davis 2026 Coaches Clinic

USD Announces Seth Davis as Featured Speaker for 2026 Basketball Coaches Clinic

Award-winning college basketball journalist, broadcaster and author joins elite speaker lineup for annual coaching clinic on Saturday, Aug. 1 at the University of San Diego

SAN DIEGO — Award-winning college basketball journalist, broadcaster and best-selling author Seth Davis will serve as a featured presenter at the 2026 USD Basketball Coaches Clinic, the USD men's and women's basketball programs announced Tuesday. The event is set for Saturday, Aug. 1 at USD's Basketball Performance Center, with additional presenters to be revealed in the coming weeks.

"Seth has been one of the most trusted and influential voices in college basketball for decades," said Chris Grant, a USD men's basketball alumnus ('94) and executive basketball advisor for the Atlanta Hawks. "Beyond his knowledge of the game, he has a passion for developing coaches, telling meaningful stories, and growing the sport. We're looking forward to having him at USD."

Davis currently serves as editor-in-chief and co-founder of Hoops HQ, one of college basketball's leading year-round media outlets. A longtime studio analyst for CBS Sports and TNT Sports' coverage of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, Davis has been a fixture of March Madness coverage since 2004 and is widely regarded as one of the sport's foremost journalists and storytellers.

"I've always believed the game is at its best when coaches invest in one another and continue learning," Davis said. "Opportunities like this are about more than basketball — they're about building leaders, strengthening communities and helping the next generation of coaches make a lasting impact. It's a great event the USD basketball programs are putting on, and I'm excited to spend time with the coaching community."

Prior to launching Hoops HQ in 2024, Davis spent 22 years at Sports Illustrated as one of the publication's premier college basketball writers before joining The Athletic. Throughout his career, he has covered every aspect of the sport — from recruiting and coaching to the NCAA Tournament and NBA Draft — while becoming one of college basketball's most recognizable and respected voices.

A New York Times best-selling author, Davis has written several acclaimed books, including Wooden: A Coach's Life, When March Went Mad, and Getting to Us: How Great Coaches Make Great Teams, exploring leadership, team culture, and the lessons behind sustained success. In 2023, he was inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame in recognition of his lasting impact on basketball journalism.

Hosted by USD head coaches JR Blount and Blanche Alverson, the clinic will once again take place inside USD's Basketball Performance Center, providing coaches the opportunity to learn and collaborate in one of the nation's premier basketball development facilities.

Building on the success of last year's inaugural event, the 2026 clinic will feature a lineup of elite NBA, college, and basketball industry leaders focused on player development, leadership, culture, and the evolving game.
