LIMA, Peru — The opening entry in San Diego beach volleyball history was written on the international stage Thursday morning, with the Toreros sweeping their way through day one of competition at the 2026 FISU America Games in what marked the team's first matches since the program was launched in July 2025.

USD's duos of Sam Herman and Maddy White and Lauren Watson and Niki Egan — competing as Team USA — went undefeated to kick off the event, which brings together the top university athletes from across North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean for two weeks of international competition at the Villa Deportiva Nacional (VIDENA) and other venues built for the 2019 Pan American Games.

Watson/Egan swept both Colombia (21-13, 21-15) and Chile (21-13, 21-9), while Herman/White also took down the Chileans, capping the day with a 21-19, 21-16 triumph.

Herman and White will wrap up the initial round of competition tomorrow at 9:15 AM PST with a matchup against Argentina.
