SAN DIEGO — San Diego men's soccer is ranked No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Top 25 released Tuesday, the highest the program has ever appeared in the coaches poll. The Toreros climbed 16 places from No. 18, where they had sat since the preseason edition.

USD collected 192 points in Poll 1, eight behind Stanford, which received every first-place vote cast. The program's previous best in the coaches poll was No. 3, reached Nov. 5, 2024 at 12-1-2 in the final regular-season Top 25 of that season. This one comes after two matches.

The Toreros opened 2-0-0. They went to Seattle on Aug. 20 and beat then-No. 1 Washington 2-1, then returned to Torero Stadium three days later and answered a halftime deficit with three unanswered goals to beat Liberty 3-1 in the home opener. Forward Steven Ramirez, who assisted the opening goal against the Huskies and scored twice against the Flames, was named WCC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Washington dropped 10 spots to No. 11.

Two West Coast Conference programs sit in the top three, with Portland ranked No. 3 at 0-0-1. San Diego also holds the top spot in the Top Drawer Soccer Division I Top 25 released Monday, the first No. 1 ranking in program history.

The poll's top two teams meet Thursday. San Diego travels to Stanford for a 4 p.m. kickoff at Maloney Field at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium, with the match streaming on ESPN+.
