ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Emiliano Salazar was named the Pioneer Football League's Special Teams Player of the Week on Sunday, the league announced, after the junior kicker sent San Diego home from Cal Poly's homecoming with a win.

Salazar was perfect on placekicks Saturday night in San Diego's 38-35 victory at Cal Poly, saving his only field-goal attempt for last and drilling it from 38 yards with two seconds on the clock to break a 35-35 tie. He also converted all five of his extra points, accounting for eight of the Toreros' 38 points. The win was the first of the season for San Diego (1-2, 0-0 PFL), which opened the year against three straight scholarship programs, and it came in front of a homecoming crowd of 10,259 that had watched the Mustangs (2-2, 1-0 Big Sky) erase a 14-point second-half deficit and pull even with 8:23 to play.

The Toreros got the ball at their own 22 with 1:06 remaining and covered 57 yards in eight plays, a drive that reached the Cal Poly 24 on Christopher Hall's 28-yard catch with 11 seconds left and put Salazar in position to finish it.

It is the third PFL Special Teams Player of the Week award of Salazar's career. He won the honor twice in 2025 on the way to being named the league's Special Teams Player of the Year, a season in which he made 15 of 18 field goals, converted all 40 of his extra points and averaged 44.76 yards per punt. His walk-off against St. Thomas that September also brought him Stats Perform FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Salazar, from Orange, California, entered this fall as a returning first-team All-PFL selection at punter.
