LAST TIME OUT
• San Diego played Denver to a 0-0 draw Saturday at Torero Stadium in the WCC opener for both programs, the Toreros' first scoreless draw of 2026.
• USD outshot the Pioneers 16-6 and put six shots on target to Denver's zero, but the Denver goalkeeper saved all six.
•
Lucca Adams earned his first clean sheet of 2026 without making a save. Denver's six shots were either blocked or off target, and its only first-half attempt came in the 25th minute.
•
Iain Wagner led all players with five shots and three on target, forcing three of six saves.
• San Diego held 58 percent of possession and carried a 9-5 shot edge in the second half, taking all four of its corner kicks after the break.
•
Steven Ramirez took four shots in 68 minutes.
•
Kevin Pena made his first appearance of the season, logging 15 first-half minutes.
• Nineteen Toreros saw action at Torero Stadium on the program's Hispanic Heritage Celebration night.
THE SERIES WITH LMU
• Wednesday is the 58th all-time meeting between San Diego and LMU. The Toreros lead the series 35-17-5 and have outscored the Lions 126-59 across the first 57 matches.
• San Diego is unbeaten in the last four meetings at 3-0-1 and has won the last two. LMU's most recent win in the series came Oct. 27, 2021, at Torero Stadium.
• In the most recent meeting, Oct. 15, 2025, at Torero Stadium, USD won 3-0.
Cesar Bahena opened the scoring off assists from Iain Wagner and
Luca Fava, Wagner doubled the lead early in the second half with a left-footed strike from 18 yards set up by Taj Eagleston, and Bahena added a VAR-awarded penalty in the 81st minute.
• LMU managed three shots, none on target, in that match — its first attempt came in the 74th minute — and
Lucca Adams claimed the clean sheet without a save, just as he did Saturday against Denver.
• The Toreros' last trip to Sullivan Field was the Nov. 16, 2024, WCC title clincher, when
Samy Kanaan's goal delivered a 1-0 win and a third straight league crown. San Diego has won its last two visits, including a 4-0 decision there in 2022.
• The teams share two common opponents in 2026: San Diego won 2-1 at both UC Irvine and California Baptist, while LMU fell 3-1 at UC Irvine and 1-0 to the Lancers at home.
CHASING A FIFTH STRAIGHT TITLE
• Saturday's draw opened San Diego's defense of its WCC crown with a point, and seven of the Toreros' eight league matches remain. USD won a fourth straight title in 2025, the first program in league history to do so.
• USD went 25-3-3 in WCC regular-season play across its four title seasons: 6-0-1 in 2022, 5-1-1 in 2023, 7-1-0 in 2024 and 7-1-1 in 2025.
• Last season's Toreros allowed five goals in nine WCC matches, the fewest in the league, and posted six conference shutouts.
• The 2026 WCC men's soccer field has nine teams, with Denver joining this season, and each plays an eight-match league schedule. After Wednesday, San Diego visits San Francisco, Pacific and Seattle U and hosts Portland, Santa Clara and Saint Mary's.
• For the first time, the WCC will stage a men's soccer tournament. The top four regular-season finishers meet in single-elimination semifinals on Nov. 11 and a final on Nov. 14, with the higher seed hosting each match.
• The tournament champion, not the regular-season champion, now earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
TWO FOR THE ROAD
• Wednesday begins a two-match WCC road swing that continues Saturday, Oct. 3 at San Francisco, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. The Toreros return to Torero Stadium on Oct. 10 against Portland.
• USD is 3-2-1 away from home in 2026, with wins at then-No. 1 Washington, California Baptist and UC Irvine.
• By Saturday night, eight of San Diego's first 11 matches will have been played on the road.
• The 1 p.m. kickoff makes Wednesday a midweek matinee. Three of the last four meetings between the Toreros and Lions have fallen on a Wednesday.
WHERE THE TOREROS STAND
• San Diego is No. 22 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 released Tuesday, its seventh appearance in as many coaches polls this season.
• Top Drawer Soccer has the Toreros No. 15 in its Top 25 released Monday.
• USD opened the season at No. 18 in the coaches poll and climbed to No. 2 on Aug. 25, the highest the program has ever appeared in that poll.
• The Toreros reached No. 1 in the Top Drawer Soccer Division I Top 25 on Aug. 24, the first time the program has held the top spot in a national poll.
• San Diego's previous best in either poll was No. 3, reached in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 on Nov. 5, 2024, at 12-1-2.
• Both of San Diego's losses have come by a 1-0 score on the road, at Stanford and at Kansas City. The Roos sit No. 3 in this week's Top Drawer Soccer poll.
COACH QUINN AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS
• Since taking over in 2018, head coach
Brian Quinn has faced ranked opponents 24 times and is 8-11-5 in those matches.
• No. 1 Washington remains both the highest-ranked opponent of the Quinn era and his highest-ranked win, ahead of a 2018 meeting with No. 2 Duke that the Toreros dropped.
• That list of wins also includes No. 6 Washington in 2023, No. 7 Portland in 2022, No. 10 Duke in 2024 and No. 10 Oregon State in 2025.
• Stanford was the 12th top-10 opponent of the Quinn era and the fourth top-three opponent since 2018.
• San Diego has already faced the nation's No. 1 team twice this season.
• Kansas City, No. 16 at kickoff on Sept. 20, was Quinn's 24th ranked opponent and the third of 2026. San Diego is 1-2-0 against ranked teams this season, with both losses by a 1-0 score.
BEATING A NO. 1
• USD's Aug. 20 win at Washington was the fifth time in program history San Diego has beaten a No. 1-ranked opponent, and the first under
Brian Quinn. The Huskies were the defending national champions.
• The previous one came Sept. 26, 2014, a 1-0 win over No. 1 UCLA at Torero Stadium in front of a program-record crowd of 4,432.
•
Taj Eagleston opened the scoring in the 11th minute in Seattle, finishing an assist from
Steven Ramirez whose own strike had been cleared off the goal line.
Devin Dillon doubled the lead in the 53rd.
•
Lucca Adams went the full 90 and made four saves against 16 Washington shots and 11 corner kicks. The result moved San Diego to 3-3-2 all time against the Huskies.

• Fava started both wins at wing-back and played 154 minutes, helping San Diego allow just two goals and four shots on target for the week.
• Fava finished the week with three shots, one on goal, and an assist. He took the corner that started the move on
Iain Wagner's opener against San Diego State and supplied the cross for Eagleston's winner.
