USD: Fourth and final year... Devyn will once again start at cornerback... Once again is a All-State AFCA Good Works Team nominee... Recipient of the 2016 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar... Named CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII, 1st Team PFL All-Academic and PFL Honor Roll... Selected All-PFL Second Team Defense and received the team's Dave Adolph "Do You Love Football" Award for defense... Started all 11 games and finished first on the team with 5 interceptions... Totaled 51 tackles (37 solo) and chipped in with 8 pass breakups... Season-best 9 tackles vs. Butler and also netted two interceptions against Western New Mexico... Was a candidate for the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team... In 2014 appeared in all 12 games and chipped in with 21 tackles (13 solo)... Season-best six stops and one interception in season opener against Western New Mexico... Named to the 2014 Capital One All-District VIII Academic Team... Selected PFL Academic Second Team... In 2013 saw action in all 11 contests... Selected to PFL Honor Roll. HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Horizon Christian Academy... Coached by Christopher Johnson... After recovering from a knee surgery in his junior year, returned as team captain and earned the Coaches Choice Award, a San Diego Scholar Athlete honor, and was named to the Coastal League's All-Conference First Team... Also earned the Track and Field team MVP award in both his junior and senior years. PERSONAL: Born May 16, 1995 in San Diego, CA... Was also recruited by Stanford, UC Davis, and Harvard but chose to attend USD because of its location and competitive academic and athletic programs... Cousin is Akili Smith, former quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals... Enjoys volunteering with kids through Pop Warner football and preschools and participated in Robotics Club in High School... Hopes to have a career as an engineer after graduating from USD. MAJOR: Mechanical Engineering.
