Will Gaines enters his third season with San Diego Baseball in 2021 and his second as Director of Baseball Operations after spending the 2019 season as Director of Player Development for the Toreros.
 
Prior to USD, Gaines was a minor league video intern for the San Diego Padres from March 2017 to September 2017. His primary responsibilities included managing game video for the AAA affiliate El Paso Chihuahuas, providing video access to players, coaches and front office personnel and compiling scouting reports on opposing teams.
 
He also served as a summer intern for the Duluth Huskies (2018) and Santa Barbara Foresters (2017).
 
From 2013-2017, Gaines served as a student manager for the University of Arizona baseball program and head student manager in 2017. 
 
Gaines assisted with field set up and tear down and also served as a bullpen catcher for the Wildcats in 2016 and 2017. For his contributions to the program, he earned a scholarship from the coaching staff for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Arizona was the national runner-up at the College World Series in 2016.
 
Gaines earned his Bachelor’s degree in communications from Arizona in 2017 with a minor in sport management.
 
A native of San Diego, Calif., Gaines is the son of Bill and Pauline Gaines.
