Joey Prast is one of the most accomplished players in USD school history


Senior/Career: Finished his USD career as the school[apos]s all-time leader in runs scored (190) and doubles (67)... Also set single-season school records in doubles (26), hits (90) and at-bats (260) as a junior in 2003... Prast appears on several of USD[apos]s all-time career top-10 lists offensively, including hits (259), RBI (165), batting average (.329) and HR (28)... Huge part of USD[apos]s run of two consecutive WCC Championship titles... Earned numerous WCC Player of the Week awards... Named the 2001 WCC Freshman of the Year... Named team captain as a senior (the first player in the history of USD head coach Rich Hill[apos]s 17-year coaching career that he had honored one of his players with that title... Overcame a slow start his senior season to be named a First Team All-WCC player for the second consecutive season... His 16 doubles and nine homeruns in 2004 were tied for team-highs... Played and started in all 56 games for USD as a senior... Led the team in runs (58) and hit .315 with 46 RBI and nine stolen bases... Hit a grand slam against UC Riverside (3-31-04)... Went 4-for-5 against St. Mary[apos]s (3-28-04)... Enjoyed 18 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI games as a senior... Hit safely in 18 straight games to close out his college career.

Junior in 2003: Honored as a First Team All-West Coast Conference outfielder after a phenomenal junior season... Led the league in hits (90), RBI (57), doubles (26), total bases (154)... His 26 doubles, 90 hits and 260 at-bats were all new USD single-season school records... 51 career doubles and a .334 career batting average are both USD top 10 marks all-time... USD team leader in virtually every offensive category as a junior... Named the WCC Player of the Week twice, (3-31-03) after leading USD past division rival Loyola Marymount in a three-game series in Los Angeles... During that LMU series, Prast went 8-for-13 with two homers, three doubles and six RBI... WCC Player of the Week (4-21-03) tearing up St. Mary[apos]s pitching for six hits, five RBI and four steals during a series win at home... On the season, posted an average of .402 with RBI opportunities on base... Clash of the Conferences Tournament MVP (3-3-03; Lancaster, Calif.), hitting a grand slam against Washington (2-28-03) in the tourney opener and leading San Diego to a three-game weekend sweep over UW, Oregon State and host Northridge... The weekend performance in Lancaster sparked an 11-game hitting streak from Feb. 28-March 16... Had a pair of multi-homerun games, vs. UC Irvine (2-21-03) and at Pepperdine (5-24-03)... During the WCC Championship Series at Pepperdine, Prast hit a pair of homeruns and drove in three during game two... Through the first 21 WCC contests Prast hit .422 with a .750 slugging %... Posted 30 multi-hit games, a team high, including 11 games with three hits or more... Enjoyed 16 multi-RBI games with seven games of three RBI or more... Played and started in all 62 games as USD[apos]s right fielder... Primarily hit second in the order (43 games)... Struckout only 23 times in a school record 260 at-bats.

Sophomore in 2002: Key component to USD[apos]s 2002 WCC Championship team... Hit .333 during conference play... Enjoyed a five game hitting streak during conference in which he posted three consecutive multi-hit games... Belted three homeruns and hit nine doubles... Began the year by hitting safely in seven straight games allowing the Toreros to set a school record with 10 wins to open a season... Went 2-for-5 with two doubles and five RBI[apos]s at Cal Poly (2-3-02)... Went 3-for4 with two RBI[apos]s and a homerun at USF (3-8-02)... Hit .275 overall in 138 at-bats playing in 49 games (39 as a starter).

Freshman in 2001: Hit .365 playing in 48 games and starting 41... Tied for a team-high 16 doubles... Posted a 13-game hitting streak... Had 62 hits in 170 at-bats... Hit 4 homers and scored 34 runs... Played and started in all 30 WCC games... Finished league play with the third best batting average in the WCC (.365)... Hit .331 in 20 league games with 3 homers, 9 doubles, and 19 RBI... Had a thirteen game hitting streak that included five multi-hit games... Totaled 17 multi-hit games on the season... Went 4-for-6 with two homers at Gonzaga (4-17-01)... Had a six game stretch where he hit 11-for-24 (.458)... Recorded a .408 on-base-percentage and stole four bases in eight tries. 2000: Redshirt, did not appear in any games for the Toreros.

Prep: Played at Poway High School where he earned First Team All-Palomar League honors his senior year ... Batted .400 senior campaign ... Batted .378 junior year ... Played for San Diego Crush (club team) that went 25-10.
