Aaron Laut joined San Diego football ahead of the 2021 season. After serving as the Toreros' defensive tackles coach for two seasons, 2023 will mark his first as USD's outside linebackers coach.
Laut came to Alcala Park after a stop at New Mexico State (Linebackers Grad Assistant). His duties include charting, run game recognition, pass protection recognition, and defensive line game calling.
In 2021, Laut helped guide the San Diego defense to 30.5 sacks. Will Buck was named a Sophomore All-American and First Team All-PFL. Buck led the team with 10.0 sacks and added 39 total tackles. He was named PFL Defensive Player of the Week after a three-sack effort against Valparaiso.
From 2015-2018, Laut was a defensive tackle for the Toreros, including three years in a starting role. Laut competed in 42 career games, racking up 43 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and seven sacks. He was also a three-time PFL Academic Honor Roll (2015, 2016, 2018) member. While he was a player, USD registered an overall record of 56-16 and made four FCS Playoff appearances.
After graduating with a degree in Business Administration, Laut stayed in San Diego as a graduate assistant in Fall 2019/Spring 2020.
While at New Mexico State, his duties included coaching the linebacker position group, run game identification, personnel, and charting on game day, running the scout team during practice, recruiting, and creating practice scripts.
