A former USD scholar-athlete, Dorian Keller returns to the Toreros in 2021 for his sixth season overall coaching at USD and third consecutive campaign. After coaching the tight ends in 2019, he was promoted to run game coordinator/offensive line coach in the spring of 2020.

In his two stints with the Toreros, he has risen through the program’s ranks as both a coach and a player, and has overseen several different areas of the team. He has been a part of five PFL championships.

In 2019, Keller’s players were part of a high-octane USD offense that ranked near the top of the nation (FCS) in several different categories, including second in passing offense (353.1), third in team passing efficiency (353.1), seventh in completion percentage (.659), eighth in scoring offense (39.3), 10th in total offense (486.9) and 15th in passing yards per completion (15.09).

Under Keller’s instruction in 2019, sophomore tight end Dalton Kincaid earned third team All-American honors and was named to the All-PFL Second Team. Senior Zach Nelson also earned All-PFL Honorable Mention accolades.

Keller is a former USD wide receiver who played in 2006 before suffering a career-ending knee injury. He joined the Toreros’ coaching ranks in 2009, first tasked with being offensive quality control as well as assisting with the offensive line.

In 2010, Keller was promoted to coach USD’s tight ends and tutored Patrick Doyle, who would go on to sign a free agent contract with the NFL’s San Diego Chargers. 

That same season Keller also took on duties as the Toreros’ travel and video coordinator.  

In 2012, Keller coached USD’s offensive line before departing for San Diego State, where he served as a graduate assistant coach from 2012 to 2014 and coached tight ends his first two years and safeties and special teams in 2014.

In 2015, Keller served as the fullbacks and tight ends coach at Cal Poly. 

From 2016 to 2018, Keller was an assistant coach at Idaho State, where he was in charge of the team’s offensive line. 

From Idaho State, Keller moved on to Division III Luther College, working as the offensive line coach, co-offensive coordinator and camp coordinator before returning to USD for the 2019 season.

Keller is a 2008 graduate of USD with a degree in psychology and a minor in business administration. He earned his master’s degree in postsecondary educational leadership at San Diego State in the fall of 2014.
