Anderson Haigler joined University of San Diego Athletics in January of 2020, and was promoted to Director of Strategic Communications in October of 2023. He works directly with the Toreros’ football, volleyball, baseball, and golf programs, and oversees the media relations, sports information, web, and social media strategies for all 17 of San Diego's Division I teams while assisting with graphic design and contributing long-form feature articles for USDToreros.com.
Since beginning his career as a Media Relations Intern, Haigler has been called upon to tell the stories of USD’s most accomplished programs and highest-profile head coaches, while at some point spending time handling day-to-day communications duties for each Torero sport.
During his four-year tenure in Alcala Park he has expertly leveraged his teams’ successes on the national stage, publicizing seven NCAA postseason teams in addition to hosting two rounds of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship on campus and the NCAA Men's Golf Rancho Santa Fe Regional at The Farms. Haigler has worked with eight All-Americans, four WCC Players of the Year, three WCC Coaches of the Year, three WCC Freshmen of the Year, two WCC Setters of the Year, a WCC Libero and Defensive Player of the Year, a PFL Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner, 12 MLB Draft picks, and three athletes that were selected in the Athletes Unlimited Volleyball College Draft.
In 2022 he oversaw all publicity efforts for the most successful season in USD Athletics history, advising AVCA National Coach of the Year Jennifer Petrie on her and San Diego volleyball's communication and social media strategy as the Toreros won 28 straight matches, achieved a No. 2 national ranking, went undefeated in the West Coast Conference, and advanced to the NCAA National Semifinal (Final Four).
Prior to USD Athletics, Haigler worked in journalism, covering youth, high school, college, and professional sports across both broadcast and print media for a variety of outlets, including The San Diego Union-Tribune, USD Magazine, The East Village Times, Triple Crown Sports, and Scorebook Live California.
As a reporter for USD Student Media, he won two awards from the California College Media Association for his stories on San Diego’s football and men’s basketball programs.
A San Diego native, Haigler graduated from the University of San Diego in January of 2020 with a degree in Communication Studies. He is the longest-tenured member of San Diego's External Affairs department after previously spending time as a Media Relations Intern, Communications Assistant, and Assistant Director for Strategic Communications.
