Matthew Cabangun

Matt Cabangun joined the University of San Diego Athletic Department in October of 2020, currently working in the Sports Medicine and Athletic Training section as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. He serves as the Head Football Athletic Trainer and works with Spirit and Cheer.  

For more than a decade, Cabangun has been working at different schools in America’s Finest City, both at the high school and college levels. As a certified athletic trainer, he worked at San Diego Mesa College and Kearny High School, primarily working with the football and softball student athletes. 

Prior to his certification, he worked as an athletic training student at both San Diego State University and UC San Diego. At SDSU he covered football and softball and at UCSD, he worked with women’s soccer and men’s basketball student athletes. 

Cabagun graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic training and received his Master’s of Science in Kinesiology at A.T. Still University. 

He enjoys running half marathons and collecting memorabilia. He also got married to his wife, Grace, at the Immaculata at USD before having their daughter, Pia.
