Casey Schoenlein

Casey Schoenlein joined San Diego volleyball in the fall of 2023 as a graduate assistant. She was promoted to assistant coach in June of 2024 and will enter her third season with the Toreros in 2025.

In Schoenlein’s two years with the program, USD developed:
  • One Setter of the Year
  • Two Freshmen of the Year
  • Six All-WCC First Team selections
  • Two All-WCC Second Team selections
  • Three All-WCC Honorable Mention selections
  • Four All-WCC Freshman Team selections
  • Two WCC All-Academic First Team selections
  • Two WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention selections
With Schoenlein’s assistance, the Toreros posted a strong 19-9 overall record and a 14-4 finish in WCC play in 2024, tying for second place in the conference. The team’s season was highlighted by an undefeated run at the LSU Invitational and statement victories over No. 17 BYU and WCC rival Pepperdine. Isabel Clark was named WCC Freshman of the Year, while Kylie Munday earned WCC Setter of the Year honors. Clark, Kristen Erland, and Haylee Stoner were selected to the All-WCC First Team, Nemo Beach was named to the All-WCC Second Team, and Madi Allen and Kennedy Osunsanmi received All-WCC Honorable Mentions. Stoner was also recognized on the All-WCC Academic Team, with Olivia Bennett earning a WCC Academic Honorable Mention.

In her first season in San Diego, the Toreros finished with a 16-10 overall record and a 12-4 mark in conference play, which was good for a third-place finish in the West Coast Conference. Outside hitter Nemo Beach was named the WCC Freshman of the Year alongside All-WCC First Team selections for Leyla Blackwell, Kylie Pries, and Amber Stivrins, and an All-WCC Second Team recognition for Haylee Stoner. Additionally, Stoner (First Team) and setter Isadora Tercariol (Honorable Mention) earned WCC academic honors.

Schoenlein came to USD after a distinguished playing career that spanned both the college and professional volleyball ranks. She spent four years at Washington State as an opposite, earning an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention in 2016 alongside four Pac-12 All-Academic First Team selections (2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) and Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition in 2017. In 2016 and 2018, she was selected to the USA Collegiate National Team. Following her graduation in the spring of 2018 with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Media Production, she served as the student coach for the WSU volleyball team that fall. During her time as a Coug, Schoenlein helped the program reach the NCAA Tournament three times, including two trips to the second round as a player and an appearance in the Sweet 16 as a student coach. 

After her season as a student coach in Pullman, Schoenlein began her professional career in January 2019 with the Sta. Lucia Realtors in Manila, Philippines. Following that rookie season, Schoenlein spent the next four years competing professionally in France on several different teams.

Schoenlein was born and raised in Bellevue, Washington with her parents and two siblings. Her passions include spending time with family and friends, being active outdoors, and traveling.
