San Diego, CA- No. 21 San Diego breezed past Fairfield in straight games Friday night at the Jenny Craig Pavilion, improving its overall record to 10-3. The Toreros remain undefeated at home this season and face Dayton Saturday at 7pm as the 2003 USD Tournament continues. Friday's opening act stole the show as No. 24 Loyola Marymount and Dayton battled for over two and half hours before LMU prevailed in five game.
Individual game scores for LMU-Dayton went (28-30, 30-27, 30-27, 26-30, 17-15). San Diego was (30-19, 30-26, 30-21) winners over Fairfield. San Diego (10-3) freshman Christie Dawson (Apple Valley, CA) killed 13 and sophomore Lindsey Sherburne (Saratoga, CA) had another stellar outing passing out 48 assists. Sherburne entered the week fifth among NCAA Division I players assists per game (14.03).
San Diego (10-3) received a match-high 14 kills from junior Kristen Hurst. As a team the Toreros hit .310 as Fairfield registered a .170 team attack percentage. USD will take on Dayton (10-5) Saturday night at 7pm. Other tournament action Saturday at the JCP includes Dayton vs. Fairfield 12 noon and Loyola Marymount vs. Fairfield 5pm.
