San Diego, CA- Career nights from sophomore Lindsey Sherburne and junior Kristen Hurst allowed No. 21 San Diego (11-3) a four-game win over visiting Dayton (11-6) Saturday night. The Toreros overcame a 23-20 deficit in game four to remain undefeated on its home floor this season. Individual game scores went (30-26, 25-30, 36-34, 30-25).
Lindsey Sherburne (Saratoga, CA) added to her national top-5 average in assists per game, serving up a career-high 74 on Saturday. Sherburne would also total 11 digs and seven kills. Kristen Hurst (Bakersfield, CA) provided San Diego with a match-high 21 kills and clutch points during the USD rally in game four.
As a team four Toreros reached double figures in kills. Freshman attackers Christie Dawson (Apple Valley, CA) and Cassie Wolpern (Belle Plaine, MN) combined to total 30 kills Saturday. Junior Devon Forster (Boulder, CO) put up 20 kills and joined Hurst and teammate Jackie Bernardin (Bakersfield, CA) in tallying a match-best 16 digs.
Dayton, who pushed No. 24 Loyola Marymount to five games Friday night, received 15 kills from Erin Treadway. Teammate Shannon Gardner totaled 14 for a Dayton offense that hit .303 on the night.
San Diego takes the road to face Portland (Oct. 3), Gonzaga (Oct. 4) and Santa Clara (Oct. 11) as West Coast Conference play begins. USD's next home match is scheduled for October 17th against St. Mary's.
