FRESNO, Calif. - The University of San Diego Women's Basketball team fell victim to the undefeated Fresno State Bulldogs (5-0) on Sunday afternoon in the Save Mart Center. The 68-43 loss evens the Toreros' record at 3-3.
USD started the game on fire, hitting eight of its first eleven shots from the field, including four of seven behind the three-point arc. A three-pointer by Lindsay Helvey at the 12:32 mark of the first half gave the Toreros their biggest lead of the game at 20-15. The Bulldogs then went on a 17-4 run to close the half with a 32-24 halftime lead.
San Diego scored the first four points of the second half to cut Fresno State's lead to four, but would not get any closer. Freshman forward Amber Sprague led the Toreros with 13 points and six rebounds in the game. Junior guard Tiara Harris had an all-around performance, with six points, five assists, four steals and a block. The Bulldogs were led by Aritta Lane with 25 points.
USD returns home on Tuesday to take on the USC Trojans before heading to the New Mexico Tournament on December 10th and 11th. Tip-off for Tuesday's game against USC is set for 7:00pm in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
