Toreros Can't Keep Up With Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) - Terrance Johnson scored a career-high 30 points, including eight 3-pointers, as Pepperdine beat University of San Diego 91-73 on Thursday.

Alex Acker recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Acker also had eight assists and 5 steals. Glen McGowan scored 17 points and Yakhouba Diawara had 15, while Marvin Lea had a career-high 12 assists.

Johnson was 8-of-11 from beyond the arc, with his final 3-pointer coming with 5:44 left in regulation to give Pepperdine a 23-point lead at 80-57. The Waves hit 14-of-24 3-pointers

Pepperdine (11-14, 6-4 West Coast) has won five of its past seven games, while San Diego (4-20, 1-8) has lost 12 of 13.

The Waves had 12 steals to San Diego's three. Pepperdine also out-rebounded San Diego 37 to 28.

In the first half, Pepperdine had a 10-0 run and took a 15 point lead into halftime after Johnson drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The Toreros clawed within 10 points at 55-45 in the second half, but the Waves used a 15-3 run to put the game away.

San Diego's Brice Vounang had a career-high 28 points and 12 rebounds.
