(San Diego, CA) - Five returners scored to give San Diego (4-3) a huge 6-0 victory over the Long Beach State 49ers (3-3-1) Friday night at Torero Stadium. Senior defender Kaitlyn Pruett put the Toreros on the scoreboard early when she headed a ball in off a corner in the 13th minute, giving the assist to senior midfielder Marie-Claude Henry. Sophomore midfielder Veronica Ambort also scored in the first half, putting the Toreros up 2-0 and also posting her first career goal at USD.
Henry tallied five points in the game after she scored two goals in the second half, one from 19 yards out in the 60th minute and another off a cross from outside the box in the 66th. Henry's goals were assisted by freshman forward Amy Epsten and freshman defender Leigh Ann Robinson. Adding a pair of goals late in the game, sophomore midfielder Shannon Sullivan scored at the top of the box from senior Brooke Roby's corner kick and Lee Klopschinski finished with an unassisted goal after she beat a 49er defender and goalkeeper Tara Gotthardt. Freshman goalkeeper Karen Cook put up two saves against Long Beach and was later replaced by freshman Alicia Ferrer in the 67th minute. The 49ers managed six shots during the match, with only two on goal.
The Toreros are scheduled to face the USC Trojans on Sunday, September 19th at 12pm followed by USD Men's soccer at 2:30pm as they face Michigan State.
